Full Job Description
Job Description

Think this role is for you?

Every accurate diagnosis starts long before a test result - it starts with how a sample is handled the moment it arrives. That's where this role lives. As Senior Manager, Preanalytical Processing, you'll lead the teams responsible for histopathology and sample management, making sure every specimen that comes through our doors is handled with precision, speed, and care. You'll bring together two previously separate functions into one well-oiled operation, building the structure, systems, and people strategy to help us scale. If you like solving operational puzzles while leading real teams, this one's for you.

Key Outcomes:
  • Lead histopathology (embedding, microtomy, staining) and sample accessioning/intake operations to meet turnaround time targets
  • Manage and develop histopathology and sample management teams, from supervisors to frontline staff
  • Build workforce plans, training programs, and a scalable leadership structure to support growth
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, and state regulations, and keep the lab inspection-ready at all times
  • Drive process improvement using Lean principles, including automation and LIMS enhancements
  • Partner cross-functionally with Molecular Testing, Client/Patient Services, and Lab IT to smooth handoffs and resolve issues
  • Track and report KPIs (TAT, throughput, staffing ratios) to guide decisions and keep leadership informed

Do you have what it takes?

This role rewards people who can lead through complexity without losing sight of the details. You'll need to be a steady decision-maker who stays calm when priorities shift fast, a natural coach who can bring out the best in supervisors and frontline staff alike, and a clear communicator who can translate lab-floor realities into conversations with senior leadership. Curiosity matters too - the best people in this seat are always asking "how do we make this workflow better?" rather than just keeping the lights on.

Additional qualifications and information:
  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or a related field required
  • 7+ years of clinical laboratory or operations experience
  • 3+ years of management experience; multi-level leadership experience preferred
  • Background in histopathology and/or preanalytical workflows within high-complexity, high-throughput labs
  • Working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and applicable laboratory regulatory standards
  • On-site, laboratory-based role with exposure to biological specimens
  • May require extended hours or weekend support depending on operational needs

The annualized base salary range for this role is $142,100 - $236,800 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
