Be part of a world-class academic healthcare system, The University of Chicago Medicine is seeking to hire a Full-Time Manager, Advanced Practice Service to work 40 hours per week for our Medical ICU at our Chicago-Hyde Park location. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

The Advanced Practice Service Manager is an advanced practice provider responsible who supervises other advanced practice providers and serves as a collaborative member of the leadership team and also provides direct patient care and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation and research. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the advanced practice manager will have direct managerial oversight for the advanced practice providers in clinical care areas. In conjunction with the advanced practice manager has responsibility and accountability for planning, organizing and directing the activities related to advanced practice management.

Essential Job Functions
  • Serves on various Hospital and University committees
  • In conjunction with the Collaborating Physician and as outlined in the Collaborative Practice Agreement, manages departmental clinical and administrative operations.
  • Manages personnel functions, including interviewing, selection, hiring, orientation, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions of all subordinate staff, in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Serves as the administrative liaison between the Advanced Practice staff and Advanced Practice Director
  • Develops and implements orientation plans for advanced practice providers on your services
  • Identifies educational needs of staff and encourages participation in various programs and classes ensuring that the Advanced Practice staff attends mandatory educational programs as mandated by hospital policy.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of clinical and educational programs for the Advanced practice staff.
  • Performs all of the current duties of the advanced practice provider performing direct patient care for patients approximately 20-40% of total time.
  • Responsible for initiating visit charges and independently selecting diagnoses, evaluation and management codes. Assures that billing codes are applied properly and in compliance with federal/state regulations by all Advanced Practice Provider staff.
  • Reviews and monitors clinical productivity of the advanced practice staff and prepares and maintains productivity reports.
  • Regularly presents findings to Quality Improvement.


Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Registered nurse in the state of Illinois, APN license or PA license
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in adult nursing


Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience as an advanced practice provider
  • 2 to 3 years of supervisory experience
