Description

Accounts Payable in the VP Finance is currently seeking a Full-time/Part-time Regular Manager, Accounts Payable.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Financial Operations & Accounts Payable, the Manager leads daily Accounts Payable operations and supports accurate, timely, and compliant payment services.

The role supports service excellence, financial stewardship, process improvement, and consistent application of policies and controls across a decentralized academic environment.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Operational Leadership & Process Support
  • Lead daily Accounts Payable operations, including payments, inquiries, reconciliations, issue resolution, and service delivery.
  • Support operational plans, process improvements, system enhancements, reporting, and finance transformation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to strengthen procure-to-pay processes and resolve operational issues.

Financial Stewardship, Controls & Compliance
  • Manage institutional payment activities, including supplier, vendor, non-employee, and employee reimbursement payments.
  • Support sub-ledger and general ledger integrity through review, reconciliation, analysis, and issue escalation.
  • Apply internal controls, risk management practices, and compliance requirements aligned with legislation, PSAS, and University policy.
  • Review and approve transactions within delegated authority and promote consistent policy and control application.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Supervise, coach, and provide performance feedback to Accounts Payable team members.
  • Foster accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, service excellence, and respectful teamwork.
  • Coordinate workload planning, resource allocation, procedures, job aids, and training materials.

Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory Services
  • Serve as an operational resource to faculty, staff, administrators, and internal partners on Accounts Payable matters.
  • Support consistent understanding and application of University financial policies, procedures, and payment requirements.
  • Build collaborative relationships and communicate financial, compliance, and operational information clearly.

Operational Accountability
  • Support financial stewardship, budget monitoring, variance review, and planning for the Accounts Payable unit.
  • Maintain controls and review mechanisms to support accurate, complete, and compliant data management.
  • Complete assigned projects, analysis, reporting, and operational initiatives.

Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Related Bachelor' degree
  • CPA designation or related credential considered an asset
  • Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, financial operations, accounts payable, procurement support, or financial analysis
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory, team lead, or people management experience
  • Experience in high-volume finance, public sector, higher education, or decentralized environments considered an asset
  • Skills & Competencies
  • Strong operational leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Sound understanding of internal controls, risk management, financial compliance, and policy application.
  • Ability to use financial systems, reporting tools, and data analysis to support decisions and continuous improvement.
