The purpose of the Management Trainee program at Smurfit Westrock is to provide individualized, detailed development to new industry talent with a focus on career growth. Like traditional rotational programs, this program allows the flexibility of learning a wide variety of skillsets across each department in the plant. Within three years, the individual should have a well-rounded understanding of WestRock and its manufacturing processes.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

  • Department rotations that include: Quality, Production, Reliability, Sales/Customer Service to ensure thorough understanding of each area in manufacturing Gain an understanding of Quality Management Systems, Customer Information Systems, Capital Funding, Production Scheduling, Load Planning, Kaizen, and other essential functions of the plant processes
  • Act as a team leader and project manager for various analytical projects including bottlenecking analysis, various Kaizen projects, quality corrective action problem solving, etc.


What you need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing work environments
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong leadership skills and an ability to communicate effectively employees at all levels
  • An interest in Manufacturing and/or Corrugated Packaging
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Strong focus on safety
  • Must be willing to relocate

The salary range for this position is $61,125.00 - $101,875.00, depending on your role, level, and location. The range listed is also the expected pay for roles in Illinois and Colorado. The benefits for this role include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 15 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change.
