Position: Major Gift Officer

ROLEThe Major Gifts Officer will play a pivotal role in advancing Clean Air Task Force's mission with a donor audience, cultivating deep, lasting relationships that translate into meaningful philanthropic investment. This position will manage a portfolio of approximately 100-150 current and prospective donors capable of making five- to seven-figure gifts, with the goal of deepening their engagement and growing their philanthropic investment in CATF's work.
Reporting to the Director, Individual Giving, the Major Gifts Officer will implement a best-in-class moves management strategy that combines data-driven insights with personalized relationship building. They will serve as a trusted partner to executive leadership, program experts, and development colleagues to design and execute thoughtful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans that align donor interests with CATF's strategic priorities.
With strong relationship management and strategic fundraising acumen, this role will build and sustain a seven- to eight-figure portfolio, increasing both restricted and unrestricted support. The Major Gifts Officer will also play a key role in supporting revenue planning through year-over-year giving, multi-year pledges, and individualized engagement strategies that drive meaningful, long-term donor partnerships.
Key Functions and Responsibilities- Manage and grow a portfolio of 100-150 individual donors and prospects with the capacity to give $50,000+ annually
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through personalized strategies, consistent outreach, and meaningful engagement opportunities
- Develop tailored proposals, briefings, and ask strategies in collaboration with the Director, Individual Giving, senior leadership, and program experts.
- Maintain accurate and detailed donor records in the CRM (specifically Salesforce), ensuring timely documentation of interactions and moves management activities.
- Support and attend cultivation events, donor gatherings, and organization events, (occasionally during evenings or weekends)
- Collaborate cross-functionally with communications and program teams to ensure donor materials and messaging reflect CATF's strategic priorities
- Contribute to departmental planning and revenue forecasting, helping to inform annual goals and long-term growth strategies for individual giving
Skills/Qualifications- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education, professional or other experience relevant to this position
- 5+ years of fundraising experience in leadership giving or major giving
- Proven success managing a portfolio of major donors and securing six- and seven-figure gifts through strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage, inspire, and build trust with high-capacity donors.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills, with experience developing compelling proposals, briefings, and donor materials.
- Ability to travel frequently (20-25%), with occasional evening and weekend work
- Strong ability to work independently
- Comfort with CRM systems and donor database (Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, etc.)
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Genuine enthusiasm for CATF's mission and the ability to communicate the organization's work and impact with authenticity and confidence.
COMPENSATION AND LOCATION:This is a remote, full-time position flexible within the U.S, and CATF offers an excellent benefits package (details available on our careers page) and an annual salary range of $115,890 - $145,000 depending on experience.
