What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Maintenance Support Specialist 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Maintenance Support Specialist (MSS) reports to the MSS-WFO Work Control Team Leader. This position develops, monitors, and validates the accuracy and auditing of performance data, reports, and other statistical information, and supports the development and implementation of Standardized Preventative Maintenance plans and routines in line with company policy, procedures, engineering guidelines and maintenance strategy.

Maintenance Support Specialist 1 ($60,500 - $93,600)

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Develop an understanding of governmental regulations and Laboratory policies impacting the maintenance program to ensure compliance.
  • Assist with gathering information necessary to develop, monitor and validate accuracy, and auditing performance data, reports, and other statistical information to ensure compliance with safety, quality, budget and schedule.
  • Provide administrative support in maintaining a database and other programs as required for use in development of performance measurements and other status reports.
  • Assist with evaluating, processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements.
  • Under direct supervision, provide general issues management support, assist in reviews and compile data, and support management assessment activities.
  • Assist with training facility maintenance personnel on maintenance program.
  • Develop an understanding of related documentation systems and ensures compliance with all applicable document control and records management activities and security/compliance implications.
  • Assist with performing periodic reviews and assessments to ensure maintenance programs are implemented.
  • Understand and adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to maintenance and quality assurance programs.
  • Support standard office functions, such as records management and customer service.
  • Prioritize, organize, and follow through with completing multiple tasks.
  • Work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines with interruptions, and while sometimes changing priorities.

Maintenance Support Specialist 2 ($72,800 - $115,400)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level, the Maintenance Support Specialist 2 position is expected to:

  • Provide assistance with interpreting governmental regulations and Laboratory policies impacting the maintenance program to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and monitor auditing performance data, reports, and other statistical information to ensure compliance with safety, quality, budget and schedule.
  • Maintain databases and other programs as needed for use in development of performance measurements and other status reports.
  • Provide formal/informal training, and aid in evaluating and critiquing performance of training for facility maintenance personnel on maintenance programs.
  • Assist in implementing related documentation systems and ensure compliance with all applicable document control and records management activities and security/compliance implications.
  • Help evaluate processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements.
  • Provide issues management support, reviews and compiles data, and assists in the development of final management assessments and/or recommendations.
  • May assist in conducting training for facility maintenance personnel on maintenance program and evaluate and critique performance.
  • Assist in performing periodic reviews and assessments to ensure maintenance programs are implemented.

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Working knowledge of business and maintenance program systems, quality assurance policies, practices, and procedures, and the legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting maintenance management.

Technical Competency: Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting facility maintenance and performance assurance; skill to prepare and present reports.

Education/Experience at Maintenance Support Specialist 1 level: Position requires a minimum of 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/Experience at Maintenance Support Specialist 2 level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of P6 database, with direct experience scheduling maintenance, construction, or project activities.
  • Direct experience performing work using any computerized LANL facility management tools that may include Footprints, Asset Suite, EDRMS, etc.
  • Working knowledge of the Laboratory's quality assurance policies, practices, and procedures, the legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting maintenance management.
  • Active Q clearance.
  • Mobile Work Package experience.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
