Position DescriptionAn immediate opportunity exists for a safety-committed Maintenance Superintendent, reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide strategic leadership, technical expertise and operational supervision to ensure the safe, continuous and proactive operation of the mill's maintenance department. The Maintenance Superintendent plays a pivotal role in driving world class safety, environmental compliance, quality and asset reliability. By promoting best practices, advanced asset management strategies and continuous reliability improvements, this position fosters an engaged culture centered on partnership, ownership, financial stewardship and 100% equipment and process reliability.
Responsibilities- Safety & Environmental Leadership: Promote, model and maintain core safety values across all daily departmental operations. Ensure full compliance with mill environmental standards, lead incident investigations and drive consistent adherence to mill safety policies and housekeeping standards.
- People & Operational Management: Direct, mentor and develop department personnel (supervisors, planners and trades). Oversee employee productivity, performance planning/reviews, succession planning and crew tool-box talks.
- Asset Management & Reliability: Provide leadership and technical strategy to achieve 100% equipment and process reliability. Coordinate the reliability improvement process, enhance preventive maintenance programs using reliability centred maintenance concepts and collaborate with operations and engineering partners to drive operating driven reliability.
- Financial Stewardship: Participate in the preparation of annual operating, capital and major maintenance budgets. Monitor and control departmental costs, conducting monthly budget reviews with the Mill Controller to ensure financial alignment.
- Troubleshooting & Strategic Alignment: Facilitate short- and long-term problem-solving discussions for mill-wide issues. Develop departmental goals and strategic plans aligned with the company's 5-year plan and ensure detailed start-up plans are executed for new capital equipment.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Consult regularly with Human Resources on labor relations, policy administration and employee development. Represent the maintenance department in daily mill-wide morning meetings and various mill committees.
Qualifications and Experience- Interprovincial Trades Certification, Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of technical training and extensive practical experience.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the pulp and paper industry (or heavy industrial processing), with at least three (3) years in a maintenance leadership role. - Proficient with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems such as SAP and predictive maintenance technologies.
- Strong knowledge of Asset Management and Reliability Centered Maintenance concepts. Outstanding communication, conflict resolution, time management and financial planning skills.
- Proven track record of fostering a proactive safety culture and managing unionized labor environments.

- The Salary Range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
