Canada Brick, a subsidiary of General Shale Brick, North America's largest manufacturer of clay brick and masonry materials, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for our Burlington, Ontario manufacturing facility. This role is ideal for an experienced maintenance professional who thrives in an industrial production environment and is committed to safety, teamwork, and equipment reliability.
We operate on a continental dayshift - nightshift rotation, resulting in an average of 40 regular hours and 2 hours overtime per week. This position requires you to work all statutory holidays as scheduled on your rotation. This position pays.
- Maintenance class 1: $37.53 per hour
- Maintenance class 2: $39.69 per hour
- Maintenance Millwright 3: $41.56 per hour
Overtime may be required as part of the related duties.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:- Mechanic will need to ensure that all necessary repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance work requests are carried out on his assigned 12 hour rotating shift.
- This position will require the mechanic to report to and take direct orders from the Maintenance Foreman and Maintenance Lead hand. When unsupervised, the successful applicant will fulfill written work orders left by his immediate supervisors and respond promptly to priority work requests from Production Foremen, Lead hands and Kiln firemen to ensure that production has full support from the Maintenance Department.
- Mechanic will assist other members of the Maintenance Department to implement a rigorous preventative maintenance program as well as a predictive maintenance program to minimize the plant's downtime.
- Mechanic will establish and maintain a productive relationship with all members of his shift, i.e., Production Foremen, Operators and Material Handlers. As an important part of this production team, you will be responsible for all types of mechanical and minor electrical repairs that will ensure that production requirements are met.
- Mechanic will participate in the Company's health & safety, housekeeping and environmental programs throughout the plant.
- Mechanics will use experience of troubleshooting and repairing all mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and conveying systems, as required while on shift.
- As well as: maintaining and repairing, will become involved in improving the durability of machinery and efficiency of the process.
- Mechanic will be required to document on a "Shift Logbook/report" a written shift report for your 12 hours. It will contain all necessary information, i.e., times, breakdowns, parts used and the status of ongoing repairs or problems. The "Shift Log report" will be handed over to the incoming shift mechanic/foreman who will review the work performed.
- Any parts that have been removed or replaced will be tagged for repair "in house" or contracted out. You will make the Lead Hand Mechanic aware of these repairs in writing in the "Shift Log Report".
- As the Shift Mechanic you will provide your own hand tools to complete any repairs while on shift.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:- Good communication skills.
- Proven record of teamwork & leadership skills.
- You will possess a thorough knowledge of all types of mechanical conveying systems along with the basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- With 5-10 years' experience in an industrial environment, you will also possess basic knowledge of Electrical, Pipefitting, Welding and Plumbing skills.
- Knowledge of P.L.C.'s.
