Full Job Description
Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for assuring that the facility and production equipment are properly maintained and designed to safely perform specified tasks in a cost-effective manner. The hours of operation are between 7am to 3:30pm or 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday with "On Call" 24 hours availability, with possibility of overtime, variable shifts. Travel for training or other plant support when necessary.

Duties And Responsibilities:
  • Prioritize and execute planned and reactive work to maintain equipment on-stream time and meet production schedules and deliveries.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute preventative maintenance system and work orders.
  • Identification, justification, and execution of capital projects. Coordinates capital projects with central engineering and interfaces with other company groups to support improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve equipment performance.
  • Maintenance of stockroom inventory that adequately reflects the needs of the operation in a cost-effective manner.
  • Direct supervision of maintenance technicians as well as maintenance contractors onsite. Responsible for safety, quality, delivery, and cost for all (3) units in regard to maintenance.
  • Maintenance of physical facility to serve its intended use in a safe/cost effective condition Assure that the equipment meets necessary EHS aspects as required by various regulatory bodies (Alberta Safety Council, Canadian electrical code, permit requirements, insurance carriers, etc.). Monitor necessary data and equipment reliability to ensure permit conditions are met.
  • Interface with other plant departments to identify, justify, and execute projects that improve safety, reduce manufacturing costs, improve production, enhance repair of equipment breakdowns and/or facility problems, development, justification, and adherence to annual operating expense budget.


Education & Qualifications:
  • Education in Red Seal/Journeyman Millwright or Electrician or related fields with rotating equipment or similar experience
  • Maintenance Manager Professional (MMP) or similar certification is an asset
  • Five to Seven (5-7) years progressive responsibility in manufacturing engineering and maintenance environment.
  • Two to Four (2-4) years' experience in maintenance leadership role.
  • Chemical industry background or similar industrial experience (preferred)
  • Previous experience in any of the following maintenance areas is strongly preferred: instrument/electrical, automation, millwright, or pipe-fitting.
  • Computer skills (MS Office Suite including MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel) required.
  • Experience with an ERP system such as SAP and CMMS strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience reading blueprints, equipment manuals and schematics required.
  • Prior experience implementing and maintaining Preventive Maintenance and Work Order schedules required.


Working Conditions:
  • Fast-paced manufacturing environment where workers are exposed to both ambient/outside temperatures and dust; working with mechanical and electrical equipment, exposure to increased noise levels.
  • Exposure to hazardous mechanical, electrical and chemical substances/equipment.
  • Eye and hearing protection and safety toe shoes are required at all times on the production floor.
  • Flame Resistant rated Maintenance uniform may be required.
  • Other PPE as defined by management within assigned department.
