About the Role
As a Maintenance Technician at Wheatland Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, in Rochelle, IL, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable operation of tube mill production equipment. This position focuses on maximizing equipment uptime, quality, rate, and yield through effective electrical and mechanical maintenance practices. This role is ideal for someone with strong electrical aptitude, advanced troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement in a heavy manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do
  • Perform electrical maintenance on production equipment while following all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
  • Verify all guards and safety devices are installed and functioning before returning equipment to operation.
  • Monitor inventory levels of parts, tools, and supplies and place orders as needed.
  • Utilize manual and computerized maintenance management systems to inspect, track, and report equipment status.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and schematics to diagnose and repair machinery.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and quality-related issues, escalating when necessary.
  • Perform breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance, and equipment changeovers.
  • Identify and report safety, quality, operational, or output issues when unable to correct independently.
  • Observe mechanical systems in operation and use precision instruments to diagnose problems.
  • Fabricate repair parts using machine shop tools and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company standards.
  • Operate powered industrial trucks, overhead cranes, and portable cranes as required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in problem-solving activities.
  • Comply with OSHA safety standards, including hazard communication and ergonomic guidelines.
  • Promote a culture of health and safety aligned with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Who You Are
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably in maintenance preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; apprenticeship, journeyman training, military service, or equivalent mechanical/electrical training preferred.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, precision measuring devices, and technical drawings.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of electrical systems and PLCs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and perform basic math calculations.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to pass job-related testing, an employment physical, and a drug screening.
  • Strong teamwork skills with a collaborative mindset.


Physical Abilities
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, sit, kneel, crawl, and reach in all directions.
  • Ability to meet additional physical demands required to safely perform job duties.

Compensation & Benefits
Below is the expected base hourly range for this position. This is a good-faith estimate, and offers will be determined based on experience, education, skill set, and interview performance.
  • Base Hourly Range: [$30.00-$48.00 USD]
