The good-faith pay range for this role is $118,400- 169,850 per year. Actual compensation may vary and may be above the posted range based on factors such as a candidate's skills, experience, education, certifications, and work location.What your job will be like:Define, design, analyze, procure, validate, and maintain normal-conducting electro-magnets for JLab's CEBAF, LERF and Electron Ion Collider (EIC). Lead design staff in the documentation of designs and modifications. Serve the role of Magnet System Owner, the main point of contact for normal-conducting electro-magnets. Responsible for maintaining and improving the performance of magnets and supporting future designs and modifications. Design and develop peripheral system elements such as vacuum, pressure vessels, support structures, cooling water system designs, as well as heat transfer and vibration analysis.
In this job you will:- Develop design requirements for normal-conducting electro-magnets (dipoles, quadrupoles, sextupoles, correctors, kickers) based on performance parameters defined by accelerator and experimental physicists.
- Design and analyze electro-magnets using a suite of modeling programs such as Opera, FEA, multi-physics, etc. to meet the defined requirements.
- Work with engineers and designers to translate the conceptual design into a functional magnet design.
- Able to resolve issues with structural, thermal, vacuum, powering, testing as they pertain to electro-magnets.
- Support the procurement, validation, and installation of electro-magnets.
Lead - Supervisory - Management- Lead a team of engineers and designers in the development of magnet systems.
Experience- Required: 10 or more years engineering experience with accelerator technology
- Required: Experience running magnet design codes such as Opera and Finite Element Analysis, experiment design, and measurement analysis.
Education- Required: Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering or Physics
Experience and Education ExchangeEducation above the minimum may be substiuted for experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Familiarity with accelerator technologies, high vacuum devices, and precision alignment methods.
- Good communications skills and the ability to interact constructively with physicists, engineers, designers, technicians and procurement personnel.
- Decision-making and problems solving skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical issues with technicians, engineers and physicists.
- Write and publish reports and technical papers regarding work in developing electro-magnets. Present findings at appropriate technical conferences.
