Position OverviewAs a Location General Manager in Training (LGM), you will begin a leadership development program designed to prepare you for full responsibility over one or more CarMax store locations. This role is pivotal in driving operational excellence, associate engagement, and customer satisfaction while ensuring alignment with CarMax's culture and strategic objectives. Role Responsibilities- Lead total store operations, focusing on associate development, profitability, and customer satisfaction, with emphasis on sales processes and budget management.
- Manage financial performance through effective P&L oversight and cost-control initiatives.
- Drive operational excellence by reducing waste and introducing process improvements that enhance customer and associate experiences.
- Recruit, train, and promote associates, ensuring a strong pipeline of talent to support store success and company growth.
- Foster engagement and development through regular feedback, performance reviews, and coaching conversations.
- Provide vision and motivation to senior management teams, setting clear strategies and goals for store success.
- Responsible for the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) program for your department and/or location, including but not limited to self-inspections, hazardous waste disposal, workplace safety, and PPE.
Required Qualifications- Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with customers and associates across departments.
- Proficiency in data interpretation and record management for accurate reporting and decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to make independent, critical business decisions and identify improvement opportunities.
- 5+ years of management experience, preferably in retail, with proven leadership capabilities.
- Completion of CarMax-provided training and intermediate PC skills.
- Flexibility to work a rotating schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel for meetings or training.
Preferred QualificationsThe annual salary for this position is:
$110,600.00 - $213,500.00
May be eligible for bonus and equity.Benefits: Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.
Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:
- To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
- For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.
Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
