Job Description

Reporting directly to the Director of Portfolio Management, the Portfolio Manager Team Lead at PlainsCapital Bank manages the operational workflow of the commercial portfolio management function, ensuring efficient administration of credit requests, renewals, and portfolio servicing activities. This position leads a team of Portfolio Managers, provides training and mentorship, and acts as a key liaison between commercial credit and lending teams. The Team Lead also maintains responsibility for a book of complex commercial banking relationships and ensures all portfolio activities meet regulatory, policy, and service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio management team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to team members.
  • Contribute to the career development of Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts through 1:1 interactions, active career planning and mentorship, and delivery of timely and accurate feedback.
  • Serve as the liaison with assigned commercial banking teams assuring new business activities are prioritized while portfolio management responsibilities (renewals, annual reviews, covenant testing, reporting exceptions, documentation exceptions, etc.) are managed in accordance with Bank policies.
  • Review credit approval presentations of the Portfolio Managers, focusing on the accuracy of the data and analysis, ensuring all risks are identified and mitigated, and ensuring a structure is in place to appropriately govern the credit based on the risk profile.
  • Provide a layer of quality control in the underwriting process by reviewing work and providing feedback to Portfolio Managers to ensure underwriting documents are comprehensive and accurate prior to review by Credit Officers and Loan Committee.
  • Directly manage a portfolio of the most complex relationships in the assigned region(s). Direct portfolio management responsibilities include gathering, analyzing and testing all business and personal financial data collected for the purpose of monitoring the loan relationship while performing portfolio management tasks including the underwriting of annual reviews and renewals, completing covenant testing verifications, managing reporting and documentation exceptions, and ensuring the loan portfolio is accurately risk rated.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Bank products, services, departments; consults with Loan Officers on cross-sell opportunities.
  • Actively participate in and complete all assigned training and development sessions/initiatives.
  • Other duties as required.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business related field required. Strong preference for Finance or Accounting major or concentration.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in commercial loan portfolio management or similar role with direct relationship management experience preferred.
  • Completion of formal commercial credit training or similar program.
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior staff.
  • Prior experience managing a team preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated comprehension of the application of financial theory to borrower credit worthiness with solid understanding of C&I and CRE loan structures.
  • Ability to travel within designated market to help develop and maintain customer and prospect relationships.
  • Ability to work after Bank operating hours and/or on the weekend.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively and professionally with senior/executive level management.
  • Excellent PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products as well as custom applications and systems.
  • Excellent analytical, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be self-motivated with strong initiative, accountability, and attention to detail.
