Overview

Microsoft's Litigation Team, within Microsoft Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) in Redmond, Washington, is looking for a Litigation Paralegal with a passion for technology, innovation, and modern legal operations who would enjoy working on diverse and challenging investigations and cases, primarily related to antitrust law, that span across Microsoft's product groups and businesses. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a complex and dynamic environment and is excited to help evolve our practice by adopting, implementing, and improving emerging tools, including those leveraging artificial intelligence, to streamline workflows and strengthen litigation outcomes.

As a Litigation Paralegal you will handle large and complex antitrust regulatory investigations and commercial litigation matters, from HSR filing, compulsory investigative demand (CID), or service of process through trial. You will be responsible for conducting factual investigations, managing all phases of discovery, and working directly with clients, in-house and outside counsel, vendors, regulators, and opposing counsel. You will partner with the Competition and Market Regulation Group to support their discovery needs on antitrust regulatory investigations, including mergers, drawing on the sophisticated e-discovery capabilities of the Litigation Team. A successful candidate should have a strong background in diverse civil litigation subject areas (e.g., regulatory, commercial, employment, patent, etc.) and a solid understanding of modern discovery and trial procedures. In addition to core litigation support responsibilities, the ideal candidate will proactively identify opportunities to enhance our team's processes through technology solutions, pilot new tools, and partner with attorneys and engineering teams to continually improve our discovery and case management operations.

Responsibilities
  • Direct partnership with in-house attorneys and outside counsel on investigative or litigation strategy and case management, with deep accountability for the overall investigation and discovery response process and general case support needs.
  • Manage preservation obligations associated with active and anticipated investigations, lawsuits, and other legal requests; identify relevant custodians, data stewards, and repositories; draft, issue, and track compliance with legal hold notices.
  • Contribute to technology driven optimization by exploring and implementing automation and AI solutions that improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on various topics related to the company's products, services, and operations using both traditional methods and AI-powered tools to enhance quality and speed.
  • Engage directly with clients and executives in the identification, preservation, collection, review, and production of relevant data.
  • Respond to regulatory agency Civil Investigative Demands and subpoenas, and to civil third-party subpoenas and discovery requests, using tools and workflows to appropriately scope and streamline production.
  • Active participation in witness interviews, deposition preps, and team meetings.
  • Drive consistent adherence and appropriate evolution of in-house processes - actively surfacing issues, piloting innovative solutions, and helping shape the adoption of emerging AI-enabled capabilities and tools.
  • Maintain internal SharePoint sites, tracking logs, and databases, and help modernize the use of these systems by evaluating and implementing new automation, analytics, or AI based enhancements.
  • Coordinate with support vendors.
  • Provide support and guidance to other departments on legal issues and compliance matters.
