Job Summary Based in Los Angeles or Orange County, the Litigation Docket Clerk will be responsible for the daily activities in a Managing Attorney's Office, with a focus on calendaring using the firm's calendaring database (CourtAlert), retrieval of court documents; maintaining and updating all related databases; processing and calendaring incoming court documents, checking dockets for updates and running calendar reports; communicating with attorneys and other members of the firm regarding MAO calendaring and docketing procedures.
This role reports to the Litigation Docket Supervisor.
Responsibilities include: - Providing support to litigation attorneys, including calculating deadlines, retrieval of documents.
- Tracking critical dates and related details and communicating information with attorneys, paralegals and/or staff as necessary.
- Reviewing court filings and entering calendar deadlines in centralized docketing software (CourtAlert).
- Searching cases using software and internet resources as necessary.
- Backup assistance with review of court filings to ensure compliance with court rules and procedures.
- Backup assistance for electronic court filings for state, federal district and appellate courts.
- Assisting with other administrative projects or provide general back-up support as necessary.
Qualifications: - An understanding of court docketing and calendaring procedures and familiarity with court filings and general rules of court for processing pleadings.
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- General level of knowledge of court rules and procedures in California state and federal courts.
- Strong research ability and knowledge of court rules and procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends, based on department needs is required
Experience: - Experience working in a large law firm highly desired.
- Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in litigation docketing desired.
- Familiarity with CourtAlert (or other rules-based calendaring software) preferred.
- Experience with firmwide calendaring preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with rules-based calendaring software (e.g. CourtAlert, CompuLaw, MA3000, et al.).
- Experience with federal, state and local court systems, including electronic filing systems (i.e. NYSCEF, NexGen, PACER, et al.).
Compensation & Benefits:
The annual compensation range for this position is $85-100k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
