Responsibilities
We are looking for a talented and driven Software Developer, experienced in developing solution on Linux platforms, to join our team at the Naval Research Lab (NRL) and contribute to the design and development of innovative software solutions for secure applications. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, with a strong focus on network programming and system-level software development. We welcome experienced Rust programmers, as well as those proficient in C/C++ willing to transition to Rust.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop high-quality, robust, and efficient Linux-based software applications.
- Design, implement, and debug network socket programming solutions (TCP/UDP server/client).
- Utilize version control systems (preferably Git) for collaborative development and code management.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure seamless integration of software solutions into the broader technology stack.
- Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in Linux software development, particularly in Rust.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years' experience - BS 5-7 Years, MS 3-5, PhD 0-2
- Solid experience in Linux-based software development.
- Proficiency in Rust programming preferred, or C/C++ programming experience with a willingness to learn Rust.
- Hands-on experience in network socket programming (TCP/UDP/server/client architecture).
- Knowledge of version control systems, preferably Git.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting abilities for Linux software.
- Minimum DOD SECRET security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS
Preferred:
- Passion for systems-level programming and interest in exploring Rust's benefits for system development.
- Familiarity with asynchronous programming and concurrency models.
- Understanding of operating system concepts such as memory management, threading, and inter-process communication (IPC).

This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
