Full Job Description
This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with an advanced degree and strong background in biological sciences to work on sophisticated patent matters for clients ranging from Fortune 50 to start-up innovative companies.

This position is open to candidates in any Ice Miller office, preferably in Philadelphia.

Responsibilities:

As a member of our Intellectual Property team, you will:
  • Prepare, file and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the life sciences sector.
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate, IP due diligence, infringement, validity, and patent landscape searches and analyses.
  • Advise clients on patent issues throughout the product lifecycle, including strategic consultation, portfolio management and patent enforcement.
  • Collaborate with clients, colleagues, the USPTO, and foreign associates regarding domestic and international patent prosecution matters.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment that supports professional growth and client service excellence.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will possess:
  • at least 2 years of experience as a patent attorney in biotechnology.
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in biological sciences, e.g., molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, etc. Superior academic credentials.
  • Experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications relating to biologics or other large-molecule technologies.
  • Experience in conducting searches and analyses for freedom-to-operate, IP due diligence, infringement, validity, and patent landscape assessments.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO in good standing.
  • Admission to at least one State bar.
  • Prior law firm experience preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
