Full Job Description
Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Licensing Associate, Life Sciences.

The Licensing Associate manages activities related to the disclosure and protection of new innovations and the transfer of life sciences related technology from the NYU campus in Abu Dhabi to the marketplace. This includes regular outreach to the research community to actively solicit innovation disclosures, assessing the commercial potential of these disclosures from researchers, identifying potential commercial partners, working closely with TOVs Market Analyst to market technologies to companies negotiating research and license agreements, and promoting the creation of start-up companies based on NYU technologies.

This position will also work closely and take guidance from the Director, Technology Transfer at NYUAD who will have primary responsibility for in person communication with researchers. As a result, this position will have adjusted working hours in NYC to accommodate researchers at NYU Abu Dhabi.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Meet with researchers to learn of their research, make them aware of intellectual property considerations, and solicit/encourage invention disclosures.

2. Evaluate invention disclosures from faculty for commercial potential. Work with the Director, Intellectual Property, outside counsel, and inventor to evaluate patentability and license potential of inventions.

3. Work with TOVs Market Analyst to prepare non-confidential marketing summaries of inventions, including commercial applications, to freely circulate to industry and post on website. Maintain accurate tracking of marketing efforts through Salesforce or other platforms as instructed.

4. Identify potential commercial partners for licensing NYU inventions and/or funding NYU research, including companies and investor groups, and identify and contact key decision makers within such entities.

5. With limited support or oversight, draft and work with the Contracts team to negotiate confidentiality agreements and material transfer agreements with companies to facilitate in-depth discussions.

6. Review existing grants and contracts for new technologies that might be emerging from research and match them as applicable. Initiate discussions with Director, Technology TransferNYUAD regarding potential disclosure or patent requirements to ensure protection of intellectual property.

7. Research and evaluate the active research and development interests of companies, including reaching out to schedule meetings with companies and attending conferences for networking with company personnel responsible for technology licensing and business development in the United States.

8. Assist Director, Technology TransferNYUAD in the negotiation of the relevant intellectual property agreements with companies.

9. Actively engage and collaborate with Vice Provost, NYUAD Research Translation and Entrepreneurship to ensure cooperation in creation of spin-off and start-up companies resulting from commercialization of NYUAD technologies.

10. Monitor signed agreements with companies to stay aware of licensees obligations to meet agreed upon milestones and royalties. Also, monitor changes in company focus, personnel, or resources, status of ongoing research and product development, making and protection of follow-on inventions, etc. Maintain good long-term relationships, ensure compliance with agreements, and identify need to amend agreements if necessary.

11. Maintain consistent and accurate data in TOVs intellectual property database (currently Evolve), including entry of IP-related agreements, patent information, and financial information.

12. Adhere to all relevant NYULH and NYUAD policies and behavioral standards

13. Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree in science or engineering is required
Ability to work effectively with senior management, academic scientists, and executives from industry, and to achieve consensus and promote good long-term relationships; Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and oral and written communication skills;
English language fluency.
Seek a highly motivated self-starter; must be detail-oriented and able to multi-task.
A customer service mindset is a must.
Knowledge of intellectual property law and licensing practices desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D and/or MBA;
Fluency in Arabic;
Experience working in a technology transfer office;
Industry or startup experience in the life sciences sector;
Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) or general SWANA Experience

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $70,481.60 - $90,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
