Basic Function

The job of Licensed Clinical Social Worker is done for the purpose/s of providing, performing, coordinating, and supervising school-based mental health services at school sites; District-wide intervention and prevention; direct clinical and case management services; proving consultation and in-service training to District students, parents, employees, and administrators; and assist in the management, supervision, training, and evaluation of assigned personnel; and providing information on services available to eligible students and families, conveying information regarding school and/or district activities, procedures, and referring families to other agencies.

This job reports to DESIGNATED ADMINISTRATOR.

Representative Duties

Assesses students and family behavioral, mental health, and resource needs (e.g. crisis counseling, financial, medical, parenting skills, etc.) for the purpose of developing and implementing individualized plans of services to support educational objectives.

Conducts casework service with parents as an integral part of the educational team for the purpose of helping students, to increase the parents understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child's problems and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.

Consults and collaborates with other school personnel for the purpose of gathering and giving information, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in behavior modification and student success plans.

Coordinates activities with a variety of outside services agencies, school sites, etc. (e.g. mental health, probation, medical, etc.) for the purpose of providing referrals for families and/or students.

Develops plans (e.g. Individual Student Success Plan, Behavioral Intervention Plan, etc.) for the purpose of providing interventions and/or delivering services in compliance with established guidelines.

Implements school wide program development (e.g. crisis interventions, grief counseling, mental health screening, safety planning, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring effective programs to assist individual students who experience physical, mental, social emotional difficulties.

Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. daily case notes, annual reports, classroom observations, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring documentation for future reference in accordance with administrative and legal requirements.

Makes home visits for the purpose of assessing student needs and/or consulting with parents on student's progress at school.

Mediates conflicts between various groups (e.g. parent/teacher, parent/parent, parent/student, student/teacher, etc.) for the purpose of conducting crisis intervention and resolving issues that could impede student's success.

Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

Performs individual student intervention with individual students for the purpose of addressing personal, social or emotional and/or behavioral problems related to their educational and social progress.

Promotes and educates students and their families on life skills, coping skills and relationship building (e.g. parenting skills, community resources, district programs, social skill development, home visits, etc.) for the purpose of assisting parents in maintaining a positive home environment, building trust between family and district and supporting child's educational program.

Provides training and supervision to assigned staff for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of social work services.

Responds to requests for intervention in situations that could negatively impact the student's education plan for the purpose of addressing needs of the student.

Responds to all inquiries for the purpose of providing information on district support services and/or educational programs.

Marginal Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Initial/Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited California college or university is required.
2. Equivalent to three (3) years of increasingly responsible and complex work experience in providing psychotherapy to children.
3. Experience in the K-12 public educational setting is desirable and preference may be given to candidates who meet this criterion.
4. Computer experience, including word processing, spreadsheets and database management programs is required.
5. Any other combination of education, training, and experience, which demonstrates that the applicant is likely to possess the required skills, knowledge, or abilities, may be considered.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1. Valid Class C Driver's license & availability of private transportation.
2. Professional Licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) by the California Behavioral Science Board and completion of all internship requirements.
3. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification issued by the American Red Cross or any agency authorized by the American Red Cross.
4. First Aid certification issued by the American Red Cross or any agency authorized by the American Red Cross.
5. Some positions may require the ability to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently.
6. A Pupil Personnel Services Credential is desirable, but not required, upon entry into the position and/or may be required during employment tenure as a condition of continuing employment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Working Conditions

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: proficient in word processing, spreadsheets and database management programs; record keeping and report techniques; effective listening skills; facilitating meetings; and assessing interpersonal aptitude.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

RESPONSABILITIES include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; managing a department; directing the use of budgeted funds within a work unit. Utilization of significant resources from other work units is sometimes required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization's services.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, and 10% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment and in some varying atmospheric conditions.
