Job Description:

Reporting to the General Counsel, this position is a key addition to Onni's in-house litigation practice. You will take ownership of a diverse litigation portfolio, managing matters from pre-litigation through to resolution across British Columbia and, as required, other jurisdictions. The role offers meaningful exposure to sophisticated commercial disputes and an opportunity to contribute directly to the legal strategy of a major real estate enterprise.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage and oversee civil litigation matters including construction disputes, contract claims, leasing disputes, and regulatory proceedings
  • Instruct and supervise external litigation counsel; provide strategic direction on file management, litigation budgets, and risk assessment
  • Conduct early case assessments, prepare litigation strategies, and advise internal stakeholders on exposure and recommended course of action
  • Review pleadings, draft demand letters, settlement agreements, and litigation-related correspondence
  • Advise on commercial leasing disputes, enforcement of lease provisions, and landlord-tenant matters across the portfolio
  • Partner with the development, property management, and construction teams to identify and mitigate legal risk at early stages
  • Support the broader legal team on transactional and general corporate matters as workload requires

What You Bring:

  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia, 3–5 years post-call
  • Proven ability to manage a high-volume, varied litigation caseload with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and oral skills
  • Sound commercial judgment and ability to communicate legal risk clearly to non-legal stakeholders
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to proactively manage competing priorities

Assets & nice-to-haves

  • Experience with drafting and negotiating commercial leases
  • Exposure to builders lien proceedings
  • Knowledge of Clio case management software

 

Salary Range:

$140,000 - 155,000
