Strategic Issues & International Litigation (SI&IL) seeks an experienced Legal Analyst to provide paralegal and legal operations support to the SI&IL team. The position will primarily provide paralegal support for complex, high-stakes litigation and will also support legal operations, outside counsel administration, legal billing, matter management, internal reporting, and selected team-coordination activities.

The ideal candidate must be able to manage confidential information with discretion, exercise sound judgment, and efficiently handle a substantial and varied workload. Initiative, self-motivation, accuracy, attention to detail, independent decision-making, strong organizational and analytical skills, independent problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential.

The Strategic Issues & International Litigation Group (SI&IL) is responsible for the oversight, evaluation, and management of complex, high-stakes litigation, investigations and advice. The Legal Analyst will be part of SI&IL's tightly integrated team coordinating strategic legal matters and providing comprehensive, high-quality legal advice and advocacy in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The Legal Analyst is expected to be an involved, strongly productive member of the team. Professionalism and discretion in working with in-house counsel, outside counsel, legal billing professionals and vendors are crucial. Likewise, the ability to work collaboratively with team members and external stakeholders is critical. The position requires a candidate with a commitment to continuously learning and expanding his or her skills.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
  • Provide paralegal support to complex litigation, including but not limited to the following:

o Partner with the team to help manage all stages of discovery for a complex, multijurisdictional litigation docket in federal and state court.

o Support the team in managing preservation, data collection, review and production.

o Conduct factual and legal research, including witness interviews.

o Work closely with Chevron business partners, Corporate Leads, Legal Analysts, eDiscovery Specialists, and outside counsel to deliver results.

o Ensure appropriate and best use of tools and processes.

o Track the progress of eDiscovery and diligence projects to ensure timely completion.

o Regularly provide updates to the team regarding the status of projects and anticipated completion dates.

o Maintain and update internal resources for the team.
  • Support outside counsel administration and SI&IL team operations, including but not limited to the following:

o Help manage outside counsel and litigation vendors by coordinating engagement letters, Outside Counsel Guidelines, law-firm and vendor onboarding, approved timekeepers and rates, e-billing requirements, and related compliance documentation.

o Support SI&IL budget administration by preparing, managing, and tracking both the SI&IL budget as well as budgets and spend from individual outside counsel and vendors.

o Conduct first-level reviews of outside counsel and legal vendor invoices for compliance with Chevron's Outside Counsel Guidelines, including timely processing, accuracy, appropriate matter assignment, supporting expense documentation, and reasonable and billable time entries.

o Administer related e-billing and matter-management processes, maintain accurate matter and financial information, respond to billing and matter-management inquiries, and escalate issues requiring attorney or management attention.

o Organize and facilitate internal and external meetings, conferences, and other team events, including coordinating scheduling and logistics, developing agendas, and gathering presentation materials.

o Assist with internal reporting requirements, including tracking required actions and submission deadlines, following up with contributors, and coordinating with attorneys as needed.

o Support SI&IL by preparing correspondence, presentations, and reports.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of five years of paralegal and/or legal operations experience in a corporate legal department or law firm environment, including but not limited to the following:
    • Demonstrated experience supporting complex litigation, discovery and case management.
    • Successful proven ability to organize and manage many different workstreams, collaborate with outside counsel and internal team(s), set and maintain calendars, schedules and agenda, and keep communications clear and timely.
    • Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain high-quality performance with competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
    • Strong organizational, analytical, proofreading, editing, and research skills.
    • Ability to give effective feedback (both positive and constructive) and receive feedback (both positive and constructive) and act upon it.
    • Self-starter who is adept at working in a team environment and partnering with management, business partners, in-house counsel, outside counsel, and staff.
    • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both oral and written), including the ability to effectively analyze and communicate across broad functional and organizational lines.
    • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools, and the ability to quickly learn new tools.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA approved program or an advanced degree.
  • Ten or more years of paralegal and/or legal operations experience in a corporate legal department or law firm environment including but not limited to the following:
    • Demonstrated success working on complex, multi-jurisdiction litigation matters in federal and state courts, including experience with preservation, discovery, and other procedural requirements in federal and state court and the corresponding impacts on the litigation.
    • Substantial experience in eDiscovery and demonstrated proficiency with eDiscovery tools.
    • Demonstrated practical understanding of privilege and work product protection, evidence collection and handling, investigation and expert and fact witness management, and impacts to complex litigation strategy.
    • Direct experience with TeamConnect or comparable enterprise legal matter-management and e-billing platforms.
    • Experience administering outside counsel billing arrangements and operational requirements, including billing guidelines, approved timekeepers, rates, budgets, engagement terms, law-firm or vendor onboarding, and related compliance documentation.
    • Demonstrated experience reviewing legal invoices for accuracy and compliance with billing guidelines, including evaluating billing entries, timekeeper rates, expenses, matter assignments, and supporting documentation.
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using a document and financial management platform, such as TeamConnect, iManage, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
    • Demonstrated experience working across legal and finance teams to resolve operational issues and improve legal billing, matter-management, or vendor-management processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and processes.
  • Familiarity with AI tools, including MS Copilot.
