Job Description:

The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement within our Large Mining Truck team, supporting 785, 789, and 793 truck platforms.

In this high-impact role, you will lead continuous product and process improvement initiatives (CPI) focused on enhancing product performance, resolving critical customer issues, and optimizing operational outcomes across large mining equipment. You will leverage Lean, Six Sigma, and structured problem-solving methodologies to deliver measurable business impact while collaborating across engineering, product support, manufacturing, and field teams.

You will also manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously, including enterprise-level improvement programs, and serve as a key liaison for dealer- and field-reported issues. This position also plays an important role in supporting tooling and capability development aligned to both new product introduction (NPI) and continuous improvement efforts.

This position is ideal for a data-driven continuous improvement leader who can influence cross-functional stakeholders, coach others, and translate complex technical challenges into scalable solutions. You will play a key role in improving reliability, quality, and customer outcomes across Caterpillar's mining truck portfolio.

What you will do:
  • Lead, manage, and support process and product improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, and project management methodologies with customer back mentality
  • Drive Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) initiatives supporting 785, 789, and 793 mining truck platforms with urgency
  • Manage concurrent improvement projects, including high-priority enterprise initiatives aligned to business-critical outcomes
  • Partner cross-functionally to resolve critical customer and field-reported issues, improving product performance and reliability
  • Serve as a key liaison for dealer- and field-reported issues (including SIF/PSIF), ensuring effective tracking, prioritization, and resolution through internal systems
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts using DMAIC and statistical tools to implement sustainable corrective actions
  • Design and deploy Six Sigma programs, including tools, governance, and reporting systems
  • Manage and deliver tooling-related projects supporting both NPI and CPI deliverables
  • Coach and mentor Green Belt professionals and cross-functional teams on Lean Six Sigma methodologies
  • Develop dashboards and insights to monitor business performance, risk trends, and improvement outcomes

  • Uses techniques such as Pareto analysis, trend analysis, and diagnostic frameworks to drive data-driven decision-making


Influencing
  • Uses persuasive communication and influencing strategies to align stakeholders across engineering, product support, and operations teams
  • Drives prioritization and decision-making for improvement projects and critical issue resolution efforts


Project Management
  • Leads and executes multiple concurrent projects, balancing priorities across product improvement, tooling, and strategic initiatives
  • Plans, tracks, and coordinates resources to ensure successful delivery of NPI and continuous improvement deliverables


Top candidates will also have:
  • Background supporting large mining equipment or heavy equipment platforms, particularly mining trucks (785, 789, 793 series)
  • Proven ability to lead continuous product improvement efforts or resolve complex field and customer-facing issues with urgency
  • Proficiency in data visualization and analytics tools, such as Power BI or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with dealer-reported issues and field data systems, including myCPI, SIMSi, SIS, PSCRM (including SIF/PSIF and DSN) or comparable tracking tools
  • Hands-on involvement in tooling development and implementation supporting NPI and product improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrated success collaborating across engineering, product support, and manufacturing teams

  • Location: This position is based in Tucson, AZ and requires onsite work five days a week.
  • Relocation: Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
  • Travel: This position may require up to 10% travel, including domestic and international travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
