What The Role Is

Reporting to the Wind Site Manager, the Lead Technician will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Ocotillo wind site by participating in and monitoring the performance of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance and substation activities for wind turbines. The primary objective of this position is to maintain safe, effective, efficient, and profitable wind turbine operations.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Monitor, abide by, and enforce safe work practices as they relate to wind plants, wind plant personnel, wind turbine repairs, maintenance, and balance of plant activities.
  • Inspect completed repairs and scheduled maintenance for quality assurance.
  • Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on Clearway-owned equipment.
  • Perform all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement, and ensure others do the same in accordance with proper procedures, guidance, and Clearway standards.
  • Use proper tooling and equipment to perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance activities on Clearway-owned equipment.
  • Support in all areas of site operations, including leading crews, as directed by the Site Manager and with minimal supervision.
  • Assist in the training and development of lower-level operation and maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure crews document all work performed, parts used, and time spent using computer-based service reporting procedures.
  • Responsible for updating manuals, work instructions, and technical wind turbine data.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams and mentor others as needed.
  • Monitor site conditions, contractors, and Clearway personnel to maximize revenue and minimize downtime during repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensure crews maintain all tools and equipment in good working order and well organized.
  • Safely perform LOTO and mentor lower-level technicians in LOTO.
  • Perform balance of plant, O&M facility, and switchyard maintenance, repairs, and inspection as required.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including weeknights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and serviced.
What You'll Bring
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Associate's degree (electrical or technical) and 2+ years of turbine experience, or 5+ years of wind turbine experience required.
  • 1+ years of independent turbine troubleshooting experience and the ability to troubleshoot turbines without assistance are required.
  • Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet.
  • Comfortable standing outside the nacelle and nosecone at the top of the turbine and working in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between colored wires.
  • Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
  • Able to travel as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain wind turbines at a high availability factor.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and fluent in creating, editing, and modifying Word and Excel documents.
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of the different components of the wind turbine, including the pitch system, computerized control system, and the power conversion unit, as well as knowledge and understanding of OEM-approved mechanical maintenance methods and practices.
  • Possess the skills to perform mechanical and electrical equipment repairs and guide and mentor others to do the same.
What Would Be Nice
  • Previous experience in SAP is preferred

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law. This role is eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.

Salary Range Across all U.S. Locations

$82,800-$98,100 USD
