Full Job Description
Who You Are

You've led products from idea to production and you know what it takes because you've done it at every stage. You're as comfortable writing technical requirements and running sprint planning as you are advising clients on where their product should go next. Fast moving, growth stage to mid-market environments are where you thrive. Throughout your journey, you've also:
  • Shipped software products for 8 or more years, ideally within a consulting or professional services environment
  • Led cross discipline teams through product delivery for 5+ years, mentoring engineers and designers while keeping stakeholders aligned
  • Owned delivery for engineering teams, from sprint planning and estimation to dependency mapping and capacity forecasting
  • Built AI or ML powered products or features
  • Adopted AI tools in your day to day work, with recent examples of shipping faster or working differently because of them
  • Run product analytics and customer research, applying insights to drive stronger outcomes
  • Collaborated across design, engineering, project management, and leadership
  • Shaped product vision with clients while keeping the bigger strategic picture in view
  • Kept one eye on the roadmap and one on the sprint, and knew when and where to shift focus
  • Built a presence in the product community through writing, talks, or peer engagement
What You'll Do At 8th Light

At 8th Light you'll work directly with client teams, business leaders, engineers, and designers to turn product thinking into software that ships. You'll typically be embedded in one or two client engagements at a time, sometimes as an interim product leader for teams that don't have one. In that work you'll:
  • Write technical requirements, tickets, and user stories, and lead the engineering discussions behind them
  • Own sprint planning, dependency mapping, and capacity forecasting
  • Assess scope, commit to delivery estimates, and hold the engineering team accountable to set timelines
  • Own backlog prioritization with the engineering team and drive work through to completion
  • Push your work forward with AI across research, synthesis, and delivery, and bring clients and teams along for the ride
  • Run product discovery and research with clients and their users
  • Apply human centered design, lean, and agile practices to ship software people actually want to use
  • Provide roadmap and strategy guidance, and own product strategy and go to market plans with key stakeholders
  • Spot opportunities to grow client engagements through your product expertise and thought leadership
  • Build relationships with peers, partners, and industry contacts to stay current on trends and practices
Strongly Preferred Skills

In addition to the above stated qualifications and experience, 8th Light would also like to encourage candidates with the following to consider this opportunity:
  • A background in technical product management, technical project management, or product operations
  • Experience in a boutique or smaller consultancy, where you stayed close to delivery and wore more than one hat
  • Depth across interdisciplinary domains like security, observability, and cloud, gained inside digital product consultancies
  • Experience selling professional services offerings to new or existing accounts of enterprise size and scale
