Join Our Team as a Lead Tariff Compliance Specialist!

The Lead Tariff Compliance Specialist plays a key role in helping Southwest Power Pool maintain organizational compliance with the SPP Tariff while supporting the reliable operation of the bulk electric grid and wholesale energy markets. This position serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, partnering closely with business units to provide oversight, guidance, and monitoring of tariff requirements and compliance obligations across the organization.

In this role, you'll collaborate across teams to evaluate compliance risk, assess implementation efforts for new and revised tariff requirements, and support the development of practical, risk-based internal controls that strengthen operational accountability. You'll also work closely with stakeholders throughout the organization to promote a proactive culture of compliance and help ensure business processes align with evolving tariff expectations.

What You'll Do
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and monitoring to ensure organizational compliance with tariff requirements across business units.
  • Evaluate implementation efforts related to new and revised tariff requirements to confirm alignment with compliance expectations.
  • Identify and assess tariff-related compliance risks and partner with business units to support the development of effective, risk-based controls.
  • Analyze SPP Revision Requests to evaluate organizational impact and proactively identify compliance considerations and risks.
  • Maintain oversight of tariff-related compliance controls, including ownership, documentation, and ongoing effectiveness.
  • Maintain visibility into compliance obligations, control ownership, and risk activities through the organization's GRC platform.
  • Partner with business leaders to integrate tariff requirements into business processes while preserving accountability within the business units.
  • Influence stakeholders to promote consistent understanding, accountability, and adherence to tariff obligations.
  • Support audit activities by coordinating documentation, providing subject matter expertise, and validating control effectiveness related to tariff compliance.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of tariff compliance procedures, processes, and best practices.

To Be Successful as a Lead tariff Compliance Specialist, We're Looking For:

Education Requirement:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Law, Public Policy, Energy Management, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience Requirement:
  • Eight (8) years of experience in regulatory compliance, tariff administration, energy markets, risk management, audit, or a related discipline.
  • Experience interpreting complex policy, law or tariff requirements, or other regulatory requirements, developing controls, and assessing compliance risk.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement policies, procedures, or governance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of compliance frameworks, risk management principles, and/or internal control environments.
  • Ability to analyze complex requirements and identify practical, risk-based compliance solutions.
  • Experience working with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) systems or similar compliance management tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate operational impacts of regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to influence and guide individuals at multiple levels of an organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to evolving regulatory or tariff requirements.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to translate complex requirements into clear guidance and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with energy markets, regional transmission organizations (RTOs), or tariff-based regulatory environments.

Position Type, Location, and Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Little Rock, Arkansas, with a minimum requirement of two days per week in the office. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours as needed.

Travel Requirement:
  • This position requires minimal travel (approximately 10%)
