The Role
Wood is currently seeking an experienced Lead Structural Designer to join our Projects Team in Calgary, Alberta. The role will lead structural design and drafting activities, coordinate a team of designers, and support multidisciplinary project execution while ensuring deliverables meet project, client, statutory, regulatory, schedule, and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Carry out structural design and drafting work as part of a multi-discipline project team.
- Lead a team of structural designers, including task assignment, work prioritization, and schedule coordination.
- Produce complex 3D structural models using Advance Steel.
- Produce 2D structural drawings from reference 3D models using AutoCAD.
- Provide discipline-specific design and drafting services that meet project, client, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and work closely with project team members and other disciplines to support successful project execution.
- Participate in project meetings, model reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination activities.
- Coordinate work with Wood's workshare teams and support execution across multiple offices.
- Perform quality checks on 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with Wood QA/QC procedures.
- Prepare material take-offs and other design deliverables as required.
- Manage assigned work within project schedules and budgets.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to designers on the project.
- Perform other discipline-related duties as requested by the Structural Lead.

Expected:
* Diploma in Structural Engineering Design and Drafting Technology or equivalent
* Minimum 15 years of structural design and drafting experience in the oil and gas, energy, or industrial sectors
* Advanced experience with structural modeling and drafting software, including Autodesk Advance Steel, AVEVA E3D, Hexagon Smart3D, AutoCAD, and SmartSketch
* Experience leading or coordinating structural design teams on multidisciplinary projects while maintaining individual design responsibilities
* Demonstrated experience developing complex 3D structural models and detailed structural drawings
* Experience coordinating deliverables across multiple offices, workshare teams, and engineering disciplines
* Experience performing drawing, model, and deliverable checks in accordance with quality management procedures
* Strong understanding of structural steel detailing and industrial facility design practices
* Proven ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting project schedule and budget commitments
* Must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application
Desirable:
* Experience mentoring, coaching, and developing less experienced designers
* Experience working with Wood or other engineering consulting organizations on multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM projects
* Experience supporting structural design and drafting activities across multiple project offices or workshare locations
