Full Job Description
An overview of this role

As SEC Manager on GitLab's Accounting team, you'll take end-to-end ownership of our external financial reporting, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q. This isn't a collect-and-consolidate role. You'll drive the reporting calendar, coordinate work across Accounting, Legal, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), and Investor Relations, and improve the quality, clarity, and consistency of our disclosures and reporting processes. You'll report to the Director of SEC Reporting and work remotely from the Americas.
What you'll do
  • Own the preparation, review, and filing of GitLab's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and S-1, along with quarterly investor materials.
  • Build and drive the quarterly and annual reporting calendar, coordinate cross-functional inputs, maintain accountability for deadlines, and flag timeline risks early.
  • Lead the earnings release process, including the quarterly management reporting package and review of financial information in the earnings release and script.
  • Own the disclosure checklist and eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) review process, and identify ways to improve disclosure quality, clarity, and consistency.
  • Improve the SEC reporting process by identifying inefficiencies, redundancies, and manual steps, then driving automation and standardization.
  • Prepare or review journal entries, reconciliations, the equity rollforward, earnings per share calculations, and provided-by-client schedules for assigned areas such as stock-based compensation and stock repurchases.
  • Ensure compliance with SEC and United States generally accepted accounting principles (U.S. GAAP) reporting requirements, research technical accounting issues, and lead the implementation of new accounting pronouncements that affect disclosures.
  • Maintain Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements for relevant areas, support internal and external reporting packages, and lead or contribute to special projects such as process improvements, new disclosure requirements, and merger and acquisition reporting.
What you'll bring
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure or active pursuit of licensure is preferred.
  • Experience in owning SEC reporting deliverables, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q, in a public company or a public accounting environment serving public company clients.
  • A record of improving disclosures and reporting processes, not only executing existing processes.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to own a calendar, drive accountability across teams, and manage competing deadlines independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to research and interpret complex accounting guidance.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to and influencing senior stakeholders and collaborating with Legal, FP&A, Investor Relations, and business partners.
  • Proficiency with Workiva Wdesk and NetSuite is preferred.
