Job Description Summary

Dauch is looking for a Lead Quality Engineer to join our Detroit Business Office team!

The Lead Quality Engineer coordinates control plans, inspection systems, and action plans to achieve expected results. Leads, mentors and develops team members to promote quality awareness and implement quality programs and initiatives.Ensures the execution of non-conformances, containment, and corrective actions and metrics.This candidate would serve as a subject matter expert who can facilitate or lead training on quality tools.

Job Description:

  • Prepare quality improvement team members by identifying training needs; training employees in analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Resolve quality issues by identifying problems; examining solution options; implementing action plans; providing resources.

  • Recommend quality policies by identifying problems; studying standards; evaluating quality outcomes

  • Promote interest in quality improvement efforts by publicizing project results

  • Recognize improvements by developing rewards.

  • Advise management by summarizing data; preparing reports; explaining proposals; counseling managers.

  • Improve quality improvement job knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.

  • Contribute to quality improvement and organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results.

  • Work with customer Automotive OEM plants to provide technical assistance and support for emerging quality issues.

  • Perform teardown analysis and structured problem solving for warranty returned driveline products. Conducting follow up on root cause analysis and corrective actions for these warranty returns and formal customer quality complaints.

  • Conduct layered process audits at AAM driveline facilities and troubleshooting quality issues and concerns line side.

  • Apply customer specific quality requirements to Automotive OEM’s.

  • Apply and supporting quality systems requirements to include IATF 16949 for internally and for external customers through auditing.

  • Attend program review meetings and providing support for launch activities utilizing FMEA, APQP & PPAP.

  • Travel required up to 50% to AAM plants and other global facilities.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or similar related field.

  • 5+ years’ experience working in the automotive industry. 

  • Experience with IATF 16949, FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA, GD&T and SPC.
