A DAY IN THE LIFE
As a Lead Program Engineer within the Major Projects Group, you'll serve as the program engineering interface across renewable generation, transmission, storage, gas generation, and data center infrastructure—ensuring alignment between independently executed scopes while enabling Business Units to deliver their work effectively.
You'll ensure program engineering execution as it relates to large-scale integrated energy campuses, engaging from early-stage development through project execution to support alignment between client requirements and internal Business Units. The Lead Program Engineer will coordinate with clients, internal and third-party engineers, designers, and other parties responsible for the integration of solar, wind, BESS, gas generation, and high-voltage infrastructure into a single campus system, ensuring engineering scopes are aligned across all scopes before energization.
STEP INTO THE ROLE
- Interfaces with internal engineering teams as well as multiple third-party design firms working towards Issued for Construction Drawings for electrical, civil, and structural designs.
- Manages RFIs and design changes and supports commissioning and as-builts. Supports the program engineering design by ensuring the design meets the contractual, technical, safety, and quality requirement from Client, Company, and Industry Specifications and Standards.
- Coordinates and leads design reviews at each design milestone. Design reviews will include owner, owner third party engineer, Company, and third-party personnel.
- Performs the overall coordination and integration of technical activities in engineering projects and services. Directs, reviews, or approves project designs and technology integration.
- Leads global initiatives for the engineering department. Leads the process of coordinating with engineering team members to collaborate on new initiatives.
- Partners with project managers to facilitate design understanding as construction starts to occur. Ensures full understanding of the intent of the design and how the design will be audited throughout. Recognizes cost impacts of design changes and shares impacts with project management and procurement team.
- Collaborates with the Senior Engineer – Civil & Structures and Lead Engineer – Civil & Structures to manage survey, geotechnical, civil, hydrology, SWPPP, and structural engineering.
- Maintains and oversees engineering schedules and budgets to meet the requirements of the project. Fully understands time and resource management to achieve results needed for project deadlines.
- Reviews and approves materials to be used on the project by attaining Engineer of Record Approvals or other resources available.
- Ensures takeoffs are complete and accurate for material procurement.
- Coordinates and leads regularly scheduled calls between applicable parties.
- Assures projects are designed and constructed in compliance with all applicable safety standards including ASTM, OSHA, NESC, NEC, NFPA and others.
- Ensures design deliverables are received in time to support procurement and project schedule.
- Reviews implications of project changes and provides recommendations.
- Performs economic analysis/value engineering to determine cost effective solutions and prepare written recommendations.
- Travels to support the site team and lead design reviews as required.
- Identifies opportunities for streamlining work and reducing waste in order to improve efficiency.
- Assists with special projects as needed.
- Performs other duties per supervisor’s discretion.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering, or related degree from an ABET accredited college required.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred.
- Six or more years of progressive engineering, engineering supervisory, and/or construction/field related experience in a related industry (i.e., heavy civil, industrial, utilities, power generation) required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
- Effective communication skills (oral, written, listening, presentation) to effectively work with utilities, owners, engineering firms, employees, etc.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, leadership, production methods, and coordination of people/resources.
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills to consider the relative costs, benefits, and impacts of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
- Ability to travel for project-based purposes. Position is estimated to require travel up to 25% of the time.

$121,680.00 - $176,436.00 Individual Compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
