Full Job Description
Purpose

We are currently recruiting for a Lead Process Engineer (SAGD) to join our team of world-class experts and project leaders. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and coordination for process engineering activities on SAGD and thermal oil sands projects, supporting projects from early studies through detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and start-up. The Lead Process Engineer will be responsible for overseeing process engineering deliverables, coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces, mentoring team members, and ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements. This is a full-time position based in either Calgary, Alberta or Edmonton, Alberta.

Responsibilities
  • Lead process engineering activities on SAGD projects and ensure delivery of quality engineering services that meet Worley, customer, and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee process engineering work performed by project teams.
  • Act as the primary process engineering focal point for assigned projects.
  • Manage process engineering scope, schedule, priorities, and technical deliverables.
  • Ensure process engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with project requirements, applicable standards, and established quality procedures.
  • Lead or oversee development and review of:
    • Process simulations and heat & material balances
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
    • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Process design criteria and philosophies
    • Equipment specifications and datasheets
    • Relief system design and operating envelopes
    • Engineering studies, reports, and technical documentation
  • Provide technical leadership during feasibility studies, conceptual design, FEED, detailed engineering, and brownfield modifications.
  • Support project planning activities including estimates, proposals, schedules, staffing plans, and execution strategies.
  • Identify and manage technical risks, scope changes, and engineering issues throughout project execution.
  • Provide technical guidance during procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, start-up, and operational support activities.
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, HAZOPs, risk reviews, and project decision-making processes.
  • Coordinate effectively with other engineering disciplines, project management, customers, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to junior, intermediate, and senior engineers.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and promote engineering excellence across the organization.


Technical and Industry Experience
  • Extensive process engineering experience within the oil and gas industry, including significant SAGD and thermal oil sands project experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of SAGD facilities and associated processing systems, including steam generation, produced water treatment, oil treating, gathering systems, utilities, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience leading process engineering activities on multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Excellent understanding of process engineering fundamentals and design principles.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable industry standards, codes, regulations, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience supporting projects through all phases of execution, including studies, FEED, detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and start-up.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical challenges and provide sound engineering judgement.
  • Experience reviewing and approving process engineering deliverables.
  • Competent use of process engineering software such as Aspen HYSYS and other engineering analysis tools.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineers.

Education, Qualifications, Accreditation, Training Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • Experience leading process engineering teams within an EPCM or consulting environment.
  • Experience serving as Process Lead on large multidisciplinary SAGD projects.
  • Experience supporting operational facilities and brownfield modifications.
