Full Job Description
Lead Pipeline Engineer

Department: Engineering - Video

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Austin

Description

We are looking for an experienced Lead Pipeline Engineer to own and operate the software delivery pipeline for all Video engineering teams. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on building reliable, automated, and AI-driven CI/CD infrastructure. The ideal candidate combines deep release engineering expertise with a passion for using AI to transform how software is built, tested, and shipped.

An existing GitHub Actions pipeline is in place, but the candidate is expected to re-architect and redesign the pipeline as needed to meet evolving requirements. This role reports to the VP of Cloud Engineering and operates autonomously, interacting directly with engineering, QA, product management, customer service, and infrastructure teams.

The Engineering Operations Team:

The Engineering Operations team enables Video Software Engineering teams to deliver high-quality software products efficiently, predictably, and transparently. The team provides the environment, processes, and tooling that make great products possible - without building customer-facing products itself. This role leads the Pipeline Engineering section of that team.

Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end delivery pipeline for all software releases across engineering teams, from code commit to production deployment.
  • Design, build, and maintain GitHub Actions-based CI/CD workflows that enforce quality gates, automated testing, and release policies.
  • Create and operate performance monitoring for services delivered to production, enabling early detection of regressions and anomalies.
  • Drive automation of pipeline operations using AI tools, including Claude, to manage releases, detect issues, and reduce manual oversight.
  • Establish and enforce pipeline standards, providing guidance and guardrails to engineering teams.
  • Automate the generation and distribution of release information, changelogs, and project status updates.
  • Collaborate with the Process Management to ensure pipeline metrics feed into SDLC reporting and stakeholder dashboards.
  • Evaluate and integrate software quality and vulnerability testing tools into the pipeline.
  • Secure the CI/CD pipeline against manipulation, configure GitHub repository protections including branch policies, secret management, and user permissions. Integrate cybersecurity and vulnerability testing of software products as a standard pipeline stage.

Desired Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of experience in software development lifecycle management, release engineering, or DevOps.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with self-hosted Kubernetes.
  • Deep expertise with GitHub and GitHub Actions, including complex workflow design, custom actions, and repository management at scale.
  • Strong practical experience with AI tools - specifically Claude (Anthropic), but also Gemini, and other AI platforms. Demonstrated ability to apply AI to pipeline automation, release management, and operational workflows.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Sentry, Grafana, and related platforms.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, or similar).
  • Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or other cloud platforms is a plus.
  • Experience with cybersecurity testing tools and practices for software products, including static analysis, dependency scanning, and vulnerability assessment. Familiarity with securing CI/CD pipelines, GitHub repository configuration (protected branches, secret management, user permissions), and supply chain security.

What We Look For:
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI-driven operations. This role has an unlimited budget for Claude token usage, and we expect the right candidate to push the boundaries of what AI can do for pipeline management.
  • Strong communication skills - the ability to translate pipeline health and release status into clear information for engineering leadership and stakeholders.
  • Experience working across multiple engineering teams, providing tooling and standards without blocking velocity.
  • Self-directed and comfortable operating with high autonomy. Additional human contributors will be hired as needed to scale the team.
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
