Lead Molecular Pathology Technician to support the Molecular Pathology Department by coordinating project support activities and assisting in the maintenance and operation of the ultrastructural and molecular pathology laboratories. The position works independently to support development of molecular pathology work plans, budgeting forecasts, laboratory operations, and research initiatives. Responsibilities include tissue accessioning, histological processing, laboratory operations, technician training, equipment calibration, quality support, and application of molecular pathology techniques including immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), immunofluorescent assays (IFA), confocal microscopy, and histopathology. This position functions as a senior technical resource consistent with a Laboratory Technician 5 level role and supports research, laboratory operations, and scientific publication activities.
Responsibilities- Shall assist the Molecular Pathology Department Manager in orientation, training, and scheduling of all assigned technicians. Ensure technicians meet all Institute training and laboratory biosafety requirements. Maintain training files as appropriate.
- Shall assist in leading and directing the maintenance and operation of the ultrastructural and molecular pathology laboratories. Ensure laboratories meet biosafety requirements and assigns laboratory responsibilities to others as needed. Ensures laboratories are fully stocked, operational, and meet all inspection requirements.
- Shall actively participate in development and coordination of molecular pathology work plans and budgets in coordination with the Chief, Molecular Pathology Department, Pathology Division.
- Shall accession submitted cases into the pathology database and perform database entry procedures utilizing computer hardware and software. Maintain accurate records of all specimens.
- Shall perform routine and special histological procedures involving specimen trim-in, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and archival of completed case materials.
- Shall operate and calibrate specialized equipment to ensure accurate, high-quality results to meet stringent clinical, research and GLP requirements.
- Shall evaluate, modify, or develop procedures to meet special requirements of research studies. Advise and train investigators on methods and materials needed to ensure proper tissue handling and collection, and preservation of specimens for a wide variety of histological, immunohistochemical, and special molecular procedures and assays.
- Shall perform required job-related training, to include GLP training, as necessary IAW Pathology Division policies and procedures.
- May be required to attend 1 scientific conference annually to obtain continuing education and to ensure cutting edge knowledge and techniques are maintained.

Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Pathology, Histotechnology, Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, or a related scientific discipline and seven (7) or more years of related laboratory experience; OR Master's degree in a related scientific discipline and three (3) or more years of related laboratory experience.
- HTL (ASCP) certification or significant directly related experience.
- Experience performing laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and scientific support functions consistent with a Laboratory Technician 5 level position.
- Experience with molecular pathology techniques including immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), immunofluorescent assays (IFA), confocal microscopy, and histopathology.
- Experience performing tissue accessioning, tissue processing, specimen handling, histological procedures, and laboratory documentation activities.
- Experience independently executing complex laboratory procedures and scientific protocols.
- Experience supporting laboratory operations, biosafety requirements, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
- Experience training, mentoring, and coordinating work activities of laboratory personnel.
- Ability to participate in laboratory planning, project coordination, and laboratory operational support activities.
- Ability to work variable schedules, including occasional night and weekend hours as required.
- Successfully pass background and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications:
- HTL (ASCP) certification.
- Experience supporting Molecular Pathology, Pathology Division, biomedical research, or laboratory research programs.
- Experience operating and calibrating specialized histology or molecular pathology instrumentation.
- Experience developing, revising, and implementing laboratory procedures and protocols.
- Experience supporting GLP laboratory environments and associated quality requirements.
- Experience participating in laboratory budgeting, planning, and project coordination activities.
- Experience training laboratory personnel and investigators.
- Experience supporting scientific publications, manuscripts, and research documentation.
- Experience attending or presenting at scientific conferences and continuing education events.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of molecular pathology, histopathology, histological processing, and laboratory operations.
- Knowledge of immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), immunofluorescent assays (IFA), confocal microscopy, and related molecular pathology techniques.
- Knowledge of tissue accessioning, specimen handling, specimen preservation, tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and archival procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory biosafety requirements, GLP principles, laboratory quality practices, and operational standards.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment operation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory documentation practices, specimen tracking systems, databases, and record management requirements.
- Ability to independently perform complex laboratory procedures and technical tasks.
- Ability to evaluate, modify, develop, and implement laboratory procedures supporting specialized research requirements.
- Ability to train, mentor, schedule, and coordinate laboratory personnel.
