Job Summary:

In this position, you will be responsible for the organization and direction of construction engineering personnel and activities relating to mechanical field construction engineering, subcontracts, and engineering liaison to the design functional group. Interprets design drawings and specifications. Supervises field verification of received and installed permanent plant materials and equipment. Provides technical direction to construction engineers and superintendents in a mechanical engineering capacity in an area or on the overall project (project organization chart dependent). #LI-CL1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical and administrative direction to assigned subordinate construction engineers.
  • May provide supervision to craft personnel. Coordinates with engineering on constructability and design issues.
  • Establishes a Design/Field Engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Area Engineer including agreement on engineering deliverables.
  • Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.
  • Directs the design of temporary construction facilities as required.
  • Coordinates and monitors the interfacing between the construction automation plan and the project controls program at the jobsite.
  • Directs preparation of cost estimates for construction activities and coordinates the preparation of cost reports, forecast and progress reports.
  • Reviews and provides input to project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.
  • Develops and ensures the implementation of the project construction procedures from the Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs). Coordinates any deviations from SWPPs.
  • Coordinates with the superintendents and subcontractors to plan construction schedules.
  • Directs the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services, and equipment. Approves requisitions as delegated by the Project Field Engineering Manager.
  • Reviews material receiving reports (MRR) and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.
  • Coordinates subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment and quality comply with design plans and specifications.
  • Directs the maintenance of construction engineering records for job history.
  • Supervises the receiving, distribution and filing of plans and specifications.
  • Plans and recommends procedures to be implemented by superintendents to ensure construction operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Owns technical execution for Mechanical, expert knowledge of Mechanical systems and equipment, with a heavy focus on HAVC or industrial cooling systems.
  • Understanding isometrics, specs, codes, equipment setting & support concepts, and testing; ensures work is buildable and compliant.
  • Leads Mechanical field engineering team, assigns scope, sets priorities, reviews work products, and coaches field engineers to consistent standards and pace.
  • Drives mechanical system readiness and AWP, ensures equipment, materials, specialty torque tools, and test packages are accessible ready to support IWPs and superintendent work plans.
  • Controls quantities, progress, and quality, validates installed quantities, supports progress measurement, prevents rework, and drives resolution of technical issues.
  • Primary technical interface for Mechanical, coordinates with engineering, procurement, QC, construction, and commissioning; escalates systemic issues early and clearly.
