Full Job Description
The Lead Measurement Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and compliance of oil and gas measurement equipment and systems. This role provides technical leadership to field measurement technicians, ensures accurate custody transfer measurement, maintains regulatory and company compliance standards, and supports operational reliability across production, pipeline, and facility assets.

The Lead Measurement Technician serves as the primary field expert for measurement systems, flow computers, analyzers, meters, proving activities, and associated instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities

Measurement Operations & Maintenance
  • Lead daily measurement operations for oil, gas, and water measurement systems.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain:
    • Gas and liquid meters
    • Flow computers
    • RTUs and communication systems
    • Pressure and temperature transmitters
    • Gas chromatographs and analyzers
    • LACT units and meter runs
    • Tank gauging systems
  • Perform meter proving and verification activities.
  • Diagnose and resolve measurement discrepancies and equipment failures.
  • Ensure accurate data collection and reporting for custody transfer and production accounting.
  • Willing to drive throughout STX sites 1,2,3,4


Leadership & Team Oversight
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to field measurement technicians.
  • Coordinate technician schedules, priorities, and field assignments.
  • Support onboarding and technical training of new personnel.
  • Promote safe work practices and accountability within the team.
  • Serve as field lead during outages, startups, and major troubleshooting events.


Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • API standards
    • AGA standards
    • Company operating procedures
    • Federal, state, and local regulations
  • Maintain accurate calibration, maintenance, and inspection records.
  • Review measurement reports and investigate volume variances or abnormal trends.
  • Assist with internal and external measurement audits.


Technical Support & Optimization
  • Support operations, engineering, automation, and accounting teams with measurement-related issues.
  • Recommend improvements to increase measurement accuracy, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Participate in commissioning of new facilities and measurement equipment.
  • Assist with SCADA integration and communication troubleshooting.


Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of oil & gas measurement or instrumentation experience.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Gas and liquid measurement principles
    • Flow computers (ROC, OMNI, Totalflow, etc.)
    • SCADA and communication systems
    • Instrument calibration and troubleshooting
    • AGA/API standards
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel to field locations as required.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with custody transfer measurement.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, automation systems, and networking.
  • Relevant industry certifications or training.
