Job Summary

Lead Maintenance and Reliability Specialist is a critical role responsible for maximizing the reliability, performance, and efficiency of our generation assets. This position combines technical expertise, predictive and reliability-centered maintenance strategies, and hands-on field support to ensure generating equipment operates safely and effectively while serving as a key resource and mentor for the maintenance team.

What you will do
  • Identifies, plans, and implements predictive and preventive maintenance programs, including developing plans for equipment inspection, establishing predictive maintenance programs, scheduling preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Makes recommendations on equipment replacement and prepares cost estimates for equipment repair or system improvements.
  • Makes recommendations to develop or change equipment standards and may review the recommended changes and improvements of others.
  • Identifies, plans, and implements generating reliability improvement programs, including performing complex asset reliability studies and analysis and recommending changes and improvements in generating equipment and system design modifications for future project implementation.
  • Assists personnel in implementing and interpreting predictive and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Provides technical support and guidance to less experienced maintenance and reliability coordinators in the team
  • Develops and provides technical support to the maintenance and operations staff at the generating facilities.
  • Enters data to maintain an accurate maintenance work backlog database and ensures that supporting documentation is complete and accurate and that the generating equipment database structure is up to date.
  • Analyzes predictive maintenance test results and may review or authorize the test results of less experienced employees.
  • Makes recommendations based on test results.
  • Provides technical assistance for mechanical and operations personnel in emergency situations, including analyzing test data to determine the nature and severity of the problem and recommending courses of action.
  • Works with engineering personnel to develop equipment standards that incorporate predictive preventive maintenance practices and procedures.
  • May work closely with maintenance personnel to fault find and propose solutions to plant issues. May act as a leader of teams to review equipment replacement recommendations.
  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy's Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.


Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Maintenance and Reliability, Computer Science, Engineering or related area preferred.


Required Experience
  • 10 years of technical and/or professional experience with 7 years of direct working knowledge of generating equipment and maintenance work methods, and large rotating equipment maintenance.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and manuals.
  • Advanced knowledge of maintenance strategies, including predictive maintenance, preventative maintenance and reliability centered maintenance preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of the design and operational characteristics of generating equipment such as turbines, generators, boilers, fans, pumps, and large motors preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical systems, power production systems preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and/or certifications in one or more predictive maintenance technologies, such as acoustic analysis, vibration analysis, oil analysis and infrared analysis preferred .
  • Advanced knowledge in performing root cause failure analysis, with demonstrated skill in identifying physical, latent and human failure mechanisms preferred.

Pay Range:
$116,000 - $161,000

This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
