Role description:

Arcadis, the industry leader in digital innovation, is looking for an experienced Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Systems Engineer to lead our growing SCADA/I&C practice in Texas.

As a Lead I&C Systems Engineer, you will leverage your technical expertise and experience to successfully execute and deliver I&C and SCADA projects from inception to successful startup and turnover. To be successful, you will work with multi-discipline, highly interactive teams on I&C and SCADA design, construction, and implementation projects for municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment, conveyance systems, and facilities.

Role accountabilities:

As an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Systems Engineer, you will oversee the development of technical design and construction documents including construction drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates. Your role involves coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to create technical memoranda and design criteria, as well as developing SCADA system architecture, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), SCADA network diagrams, process control functional narratives, control schematics, panel layout diagrams, and interconnection diagrams. You will assist project managers with tasks such as defining the scope of work, preparing budgets, estimating costs, and developing project schedules. Additionally, you will oversee the design and implementation of instrumentation and control (I&C) systems.

Your responsibilities include conducting factory testing, site acceptance testing, field checkouts, and startups for I&C and SCADA systems. You will program process control logic in PLCs and configure graphical human-machine interfaces (HMIs) for SCADA systems across various platforms. You will also manage the configuration of historical data collection, archiving, and report generation. Beyond technical work, you will supervise and mentor junior engineers and designers to support their professional growth. Finally, you will travel up to 25% of the time to client sites and other Arcadis office locations as required.

Key skills and attributes include the ability to self-direct and manage multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting project deadlines and completing task-driven objectives. Expertise encompasses advanced knowledge in applying instrumentation and controls to process and electromechanical equipment, as well as developing SCADA networks. Additional skills include designing and developing fiber optic cable networks for SCADA systems, understanding radio and cellular telemetry networks, and possessing knowledge of IT and industrial networks.

  • Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain a TX PE license within 12 months of hire date

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 15 years of I&C, Automation, and SCADA system design and implementation experience in the water/wastewater market or similar industry
  • Experience in developing bid and construction documents
  • PLC/HMI programming, configuration & startup experience

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
