Job Description

Bose is seeking a Lead Industrial Designer to join our Industrial Design team in Framingham, MA, focused on our Automotive business. In this role, you will help shape how Bose shows up in the automotive space-translating brand, technology, and user experience into compelling design visions for our OEM partners.

You will operate at the intersection of design, storytelling, and collaboration-working closely with internal teams and external partners to define experiences that live within complex automotive environments. This role is less about owning every surface and detail, and more about setting direction, framing opportunities, and guiding design intent from early vision through production.

Level will be determined based on experience and demonstrated proficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Lead industrial design efforts for automotive programs, including concept car builds, from early concept framing through production alignment.
  • Contribute to early opportunity definition-helping frame problems, identify white space, and influence product direction upstream.
  • Shape and communicate compelling design visions for in-car audio experiences, that connect brand and product, in a cohesive way.
  • Collaborate closely with OEM partners, representing Bose design with clarity, confidence, and conviction.
  • Create and deliver high-quality presentations, narratives, and visualizations that clearly communicate design intent and strategy.
  • Translate complex technical inputs (acoustics, engineering) into clear, compelling design directions for concept cars and OEM design concepts.
  • Drive alignment across internal teams and external stakeholders (engineering, product management, marketing), navigating tradeoffs and maintaining momentum.
  • Guide design intent across development phases, ensuring it remains intact while adapting to constraints and evolving inputs.
  • Travel as needed to partner with OEM studios, internal teams, and key project touchpoints.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Design or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of professional industrial design experience.
  • Experience working within or alongside the automotive industry, with an understanding of automotive design processes, constraints, and collaboration models.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and executional levels-able to zoom out to define vision, and zoom in when needed to guide implementation.
  • Strong storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to clearly present ideas to internal teams and external partners.
  • Proficiency in standard design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, KeyShot, and major CAD platforms such as NX, SolidWorks, or Rhino).
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong design thinking, clear narratives, and examples of shipped or realized work.

Professional Attributes
  • Curious, culturally aware, and inspired by the evolving automotive landscape.
  • Can demonstrate examples of professional experience or interest in the automotive industry.
  • Brings a strong point of view grounded in real-world experience, with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and helping create clarity for teams and partners.
  • Effective and engaging communicator in both small and large group settings.
  • Balances strategic thinking with practical understanding of development and production realities.
