Job Description

An opportunity exists for a highly motivated, personable, and organized Environmental Scientist or Professional Geologist looking to advance their career as part of our growing Team of Environmental Professionals in southeastern Pennsylvania. The successful candidate will have regulatory and task management experience to support our clients and collaborate with our multi-disciplinary staff on a variety of projects.

You will perform environmental assessment and remediation tasks to support environmental investigation and remediation projects at sites with contamination by materials such as solvents, petroleum fuels, metals, and PCBs. You can join a dynamic team working on large, technically engaging, and impactful projects located at active and inactive petroleum refining and storage facilities and other industrial facilities.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Task manager - Organize and coordinate a variety of environmental investigation and remediation tasks such as ground water monitoring, soil boring/well installations, operation and maintenance, and other activities.
  • Responsibilities will include a mix of office and field-based tasks and will include project execution, scheduling, compliance monitoring, data analysis/reduction, and technical reporting.
  • Reporting and data reduction tasks may include preparation of site maps, soil boring logs, well construction diagrams, geologic cross sections, potentiometric surface maps, and groundwater flow models.
  • Field-based tasks will include coordination, supervision, and execution of work that includes, but is not limited to, collecting soil, sediment, water and air samples; overseeing drilling of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells; performing hydraulic conductivity tests; excavation monitoring; use of instrumentation; overseeing subcontractors; and coordinating complex field tasks with multiple staff and subcontractors. The work may be associated with higher education facility, current/former refineries and petroleum processing/storage facilities, gas stations, as well as other commercial and industrial facilities in urban, rural, or undeveloped locations.
  • Complete applicable company and client-required health & safety training (including OSHA-required training) and follow health & safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow established standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines to complete assignments.
  • This position is within a larger Environmental Services team and will likely require providing support to multiple Stantec offices.
  • Travel may be required. Work hours may be irregular and include overnight and weekend work shifts.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or Environmental Science.
  • 8-12 years of progressively responsible environmental assessment and remediation work experience.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER (OSHA Hazardous Worker) certification, 8-hour OSHA Supervisor, and current 8-hour refresher certification are favorable.
  • Experience with Pennsylvania and New Jersey regulatory programs is preferred.
