About the Role
WEG Electric Corp. is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to provide technical leadership for complex industrial, power generation, and grid stability projects. This role serves as the senior technical authority throughout the project lifecycle, from proposal development through commissioning, working closely with customers, EPCs, utilities, and internal engineering teams.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in rotating equipment, medium-voltage variable frequency drives (MV VFDs), and power systems, along with the ability to mentor engineers, guide technical decisions, and support successful project execution.
This position is based in Duluth, GA. Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership during project pursuit, proposal development, engineering execution, commissioning, and customer support.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for customers, utilities, EPCs, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Review technical specifications, assess project risks, and develop engineering solutions.
- Support MV VFD, motor, generator, and power system integration activities.
- Lead technical reviews, design discussions, FATs, and commissioning activities as required.
- Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable industry standards and customer requirements.
- Mentor Project Engineers and provide technical guidance.
- Coordinate and manage specialized external engineering consultants when required.
- Resolve complex technical issues during project execution and startup.
Experience & Knowledge
- 10+ years of engineering experience in rotating equipment, MV drives, power systems, power generation, or grid stability applications.
- Strong knowledge of motors, generators, synchronous condensers, MV VFDs, and related electrical systems.
- Understanding of industrial, utility, or EPC project environments.
- Familiarity with NEMA, IEEE, IEC, UL, and other applicable industry standards.
- Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Experience supporting customer-facing technical discussions and project execution activities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; SAP experience is a plus.
- PE license preferred but not required.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
- Advanced degree preferred.
Work Schedule
- Full-time, Monday through Friday.
Location & Travel
- Based in Duluth, GA.
- Travel required for customer meetings, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site visits, and commissioning activities.
