Job Title:

Lead Engineer, Materials Engineering

Job Description:

The Role

Entegris is currently seeking a Lead Materials Engineer/Scientist to join our Entegris Specialty Coatings team, based in our Bedford facility.

In this role, you will lead advanced R&D initiatives supporting both e-chucks and coating technologies, with a strong emphasis on introducing new materials and processes that transition into new product development. Drive qualification of new materials, processes, suppliers, and metrology methods, while establishing robust testing infrastructure and enabling scalable production deployment. Support product portfolio expansion, process innovation, failure analysis, and technology transfer into manufacturing for both existing products and next-generation platforms.

What You'll Do

  • Qualify and implement material platforms for both e-chuck and coating applications

  • Develop advanced processes for chemical surface preparation and cleaning of ceramic materials, ensuring consistency and performance at scale

  • Lead evaluation and qualification of alternative raw material suppliers to strengthen supply chain robustness

  • Advance next-generation materials and processes from early-stage development through qualification and into new product development initiatives

  • Drive process and metrology innovation, including data acquisition, statistical analysis, and continuous improvement for critical projects

  • Lead customer-focused and continuous improvement projects, including project management, technical problem-solving, failure analysis, and direct engagement with customer technical teams across e-chuck and coating programs

  • Generate, analyze, and present technical data to support decision-making, product qualification, and customer deliverables

  • Establish, maintain, and enforce safety protocols, ensuring compliance across laboratory operations, equipment, and documentation

  • Design and scale process equipment to meet safety, quality, and performance requirements aligned with customer and product specifications

  • Partner with product development and marketing teams to define and execute process requirements for new technologies

  • Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure process scalability, cost efficiency, and design-for-manufacturability for both new and existing products

  • Support the transfer of technology from development through detailed design and into production with internal and external manufacturing partners

What We Seek

  • MS or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with strong understanding of dielectric and conductive material systems and their application in advanced electrostatic devices

  • Master's degree with 6 years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. with 3 years of relevant experience in the qualifications sought

  • Demonstrated experience in AlN and Al₂O₃ material processing and their application in semiconductor and electronic material systems

  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: advanced ceramic processing for electrical applications, material modification techniques (e.g., doping, impregnation), multilayer ceramic-metal systems, or surface treatment and cleaning technologies

  • Hands-on experience operating in R&D or development laboratory environments

  • Proficiency in data collection, statistical analysis (DOE), and process optimization; Six Sigma experience or certification is a plus

  • Familiarity with statistical and engineering software tools (e.g., Minitab) and CAD/CAE platforms (e.g., SolidWorks); relevant certifications are advantageous

  • Working knowledge of enterprise systems (e.g., SAP) and emerging tools such as AI/ML is a plus

  • Strong technical communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex data into clear reports and presentations

  • Solid understanding of project management principles; PMP or equivalent certification is preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a global, cross-functional, and culturally diverse environment

  • Flexible, self-driven, and willing to take a hands-on approach to meet project objectives and timelines

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required to support projects and partnerships

What We Offer

Our total rewards package goes above and beyond just a paycheck. Whether you're looking to build your career, improve your health, or protect your wealth, we offer generous benefits to help you achieve your goals.

  • Generous 401(K) plan with an impressive employer match
