Lead Electrical Energy Engineer - Decarbonization and Electrification Programs
Location: This remote position is based in the Los Angeles Metro area (CA)

ICF is growing its energy and DER program implementation teams to support new and existing contracts in the region. Our clients include energy utilities, recognizable Fortune 500 corporations, and a variety of Federal, State, and local governmental agencies. We are seeking a Lead Electrical Energy Engineer to support renewables, decarbonization, energy efficiency, EVSE and electrification programs in California.

The Lead Electrical Energy Engineer will have oversight of electrical engineering related to DSM work within CA. This role includes acting as the ICF California Responsible Electrical Engineer. This would include oversight of related proposals, contracts, SOW, staffing and QA/QC processes. The role would also have oversight of electrical engineering work being done internally and/or by subcontractors for decarbonization, on site renewables, electrification, DR and/or related work which could include buildings, processes, facility EVSE and related power systems. This position will also support DER project development. This role works in coordination with multiple stakeholders involved in business development, contracting, management, program delivery and engineering.

What you will be doing:

• Review proposals, contracts and SOWs to understand if professional electrical engineering services are required and if so, ensure the electrical engineering component of them complies with California Energy Code, local codes of the AHJ and company policies.
• Provide input to staffing roles for electrical engineering oversight and subcontractors.
• Oversee and where needed execute the following electrical engineering work including:
• Perform technical analysis to quantify the existing and proposed conditions and potential design changes, including utility interconnect, building electrical infrastructure, cost, and other relevant parameters.
• Develop conceptual design.
• Provide quality control oversight for analysis done by other staff.
• Writing reports documenting existing power system conditions, proposed design changes and project costs.
• Facilitate discussions with internal and external stakeholders to clearly define electrical engineering needs and requirements.
• Coordinates SOW requirements and project level analysis and/or conceptual design work with other stakeholders.
• Work with customers, vendors, and outreach staff to develop DER projects focused on public sector facilities within the southern California area.
• Perform field audits to understand and document the customer's current operations and motivations, while identifying opportunities to implement energy efficiency.
• Lead the identification, scoping, and development of custom decarbonization projects.
• Work with customers and other stakeholders to scope the potential opportunities, project budgets and project timelines.
• Perform technical analysis to quantify the baseline and measure case conditions and potential savings, cost, and other relevant parameters.
• Perform advanced engineering calculations including custom measure savings. estimation using industry and/or internal ICF calculators to model energy performance.
• Write detailed reports documenting existing conditions, proposed measures and as built operating conditions, project savings and other cost effectiveness parameters.
• Support customers in project implementation.
• Work with customers and other stakeholders to forecast project activities and to ensure timely and on budget project completion.
• Travel Requirements: must have reliable vehicle for up to 30% local travel within Southern California for site visits, meetings and events (mileage reimbursement provided).

What we need you to have (minimum qualifications):

• Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering (or applicants can substitute one year of related experience for one year of education).
• Current professional electrical engineering license in California.
• 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering in California and/or related experience.
• 5+ years experience as lead designer of building power systems, including design QA/QC and being the engineer of record.
• 2+ years developing EE (Energy Efficiency), DER (Distributed Energy Resources) and/or related projects.
• Must have valid driver's license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check).

What we would like you to have (preferred qualifications):

• Advanced degree in electrical engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in more states than California.
• Experience using and applying the California Electrical Code and the National Electric Code (NEC) and/or related experience.
• Making independent engineering judgment under licensure.
• 5+ years analyzing building power systems and/or creating building power system drawings.
• Demonstrated experience using one or more: SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360 for design and/or analysis.
• 5+ years of experience in working with decarbonation, renewables, EVSE charging analysis and/or design including building interconnection requirements.
• Experience with the calculations and executing interconnection processes for CA utilities.
• Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
• Experience conducting ASHRAE Level 1,2 and 3 audits using ASHRAE standard 211.
• Demonstrated familiarity with building and/or industrial controls.
• Familiarity with California energy codes (Title 20, Title 24), including CalGreen.
• Familiarity with CA DSM programs (including EE, BE, DR, SGIP) and their requirements.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$130,687.00 - $222,169.00
