Electrical Engineer - Develop High-Energy Aerospace Systems from Concept to Test

Opportunity Summary

A venture-backed aerospace startup is developing advanced hardware platforms designed to support the future of space and national security technologies. Working at the intersection of high-energy systems, controls, electronics, and large-scale integrated hardware, the team is solving complex engineering challenges that require rapid iteration, hands-on testing, and close collaboration across multiple technical disciplines. As a Lead Electrical Engineer, you will own the design, development, and validation of critical electrical systems supporting a highly integrated aerospace platform. This role combines system architecture, hardware development, testing, and cross-functional integration, providing the opportunity to influence products from early concept through deployment. You will play a key role in helping scale both the technology and the engineering organization as the company grows.

Job Duties
  • Lead the design, development, and qualification of electrical systems for a complex aerospace platform
  • Define and own electrical architecture across multiple integrated subsystems
  • Design schematics, develop PCB layouts, and select components for mission-critical hardware
  • Develop power distribution, control, sensing, telemetry, and data acquisition systems
  • Support hardware integration, testing, and validation activities in laboratory and field environments
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, fluids, and aerospace engineers to ensure seamless system integration
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive corrective actions
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate system performance and reliability
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including design packages, interface specifications, test procedures, and reports
  • Support system-level integration efforts and contribute to key technical decisions throughout development
  • Improve system performance, reliability, manufacturability, and operational readiness
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to long-term product and architecture planning


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of professional electrical engineering experience
  • Experience designing, developing, and testing electronic hardware systems
  • Strong understanding of schematic capture, PCB design, and component selection
  • Experience working with embedded systems and microcontroller-based hardware
  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot complex electrical systems
  • Proficiency using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and logic analyzers
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced hardware development environment


Preferred Experience
  • Experience with PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, KiCad, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware development and debugging
  • Experience with power electronics, high-voltage systems, or high-power electrical architectures
  • Knowledge of analog and mixed-signal circuit design
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI design principles and testing methodologies
  • Experience developing telemetry, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems
  • Background in aerospace, defense, robotics, energy, automotive, or other complex hardware industries
  • Experience supporting prototype development, qualification testing, and field operations
  • Prior experience within startup or rapidly scaling engineering organizations
