Responsibilities

  • Coordinate in-house food service operations, including menu development and culinary staff management.
  • Manage team meal logistics for home and road games, including travel nutrition protocols.
  • Provide individualized and group nutrition education and counseling to NHL and AHL athletes.
  • Develop educational materials and initiatives using diverse platforms for team engagement.
  • Monitor and assess medical nutrition therapy needs for athletes with dietary restrictions or conditions.
  • Evaluate nutritional supplement safety and effectiveness for athlete performance support.
  • Travel with the team to provide on-the-ground nutritional support during various events.

Position: Lead Dietician Department: Hockey Operations - Performance Reporting To: Director, Sports Performance

Position Summary: The Lead Dietician will provide comprehensive nutrition programming for Seattle Kraken organization. The individual works in collaboration with the sports performance and medical staffs in providing food service support, individual and group education and counseling sessions, translation of the latest scientific evidence into practical application, medical nutrition therapy and performance nutrition expertise to promote optimized performance, recovery, injury management, health/wellness, and career longevity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Food Service/Menu Development
    • Coordinate and manage in-house food service operations including menu development, budgeting and culinary staff management.
    • Coordinate menu review/usage audit, development and logistics for team meals (including meals at home, on the road and on the plane).
    • Coordinate with team chefs/food staff regarding menu requirements, food allergy/intolerance needs and education.
    • Travel nutrition and recovery protocols, including determining products used on charters, in hotels and visiting arenas (determining ordering and logistics to obtain product in these locations).
  • Nutrition Education & Counseling
    • Provide nutrition education and support for the NHL, AHL teams and prospects, including 1:1 counseling, team talks and plate coaching.
    • Counsel athletes on optimal nutritional intake for performance, recovery and overall health including hydration, immunity, disordered behaviors, allergies, intolerances, weight management, and sleep health.
    • Coordinate and develop education initiatives and materials utilizing a variety of platforms, including grocery store tours, cooking demonstrations, print and electronic materials for use with teams.
    • Manage nutrition for players during off season (coordinate meal planning, private chefs, nutrition goals, body composition goals, prescribe/assist with ordering nutrition supplements if needed, etc.).
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy
    • Assess and monitor food allergies, deficiencies, GI disturbances and other medically diagnosed conditions.
    • Review bloodwork and provide individual intervention plans.
  • Performance Nutrition
    • Evaluate and monitor usage of nutritional supplements for legality, safety, quality and efficacy.
    • Provide appropriate pre, intra, and post activity fluid and food recommendations.
    • Develop a fueling station and monitor usage, supplies and implementation of education for optimal use of station and nutrition products.
    • Perform and accurately assess body composition.
    • Oversee hydration protocols for optimized performance.
    • Provide optimal nutrition support for ill, injured, or rehabilitating athletes.
    • Ordering, storage and auditing of supplement process at practice and game arena.
    • Management of travel trunk supplements.
  • Travel
    • Ability to travel periodically in support of team operations, including preseason, regular season, postseason, development camps, and other organizational events. Travel may include overnight and multi-day trips.


Required Experience & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in nutritional sciences, food science, or related area from an accredited university or college
  • Board Certified Registered Dietitian-United States CSSD preferred
  • Must have an active registered dietitian credential and obtain/have an active license to practice in the state of Washington by September 1, 2026
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an expert ability to present and communicate new ideas and concepts.
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented, resourceful, quick learner and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first.
  • Must be a fierce communicator and cross-organizational collaborator.

  • One year of collegiate or professional sports experience
  • Culinary experience or culinary heavy experience


Total Rewards Package:
  • Compensation:
    • In accordance with Washington's Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the expected salary range for this position is $80,200 - $95,000. Actual base pay will depend on employee's experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
    • This role is classified as full-time, exempt.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
