Your Opportunity:

The Lead - Data Operations will work provincially within Data Integrity and Integration, Cancer Advanced Analytics (CAA), Data & Analytics. This role plays a key role in advancing a modern, integrated cancer data platform that supports clinical care, operations, research, and system planning across Alberta. As part of a multidisciplinary team of data engineers, analysts, architects, and clinical stakeholders, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation and ongoing evolution of the Data Environment for Cancer Inquiries and Decisions (DECIDe). This platform represents a foundational data environment supporting real-world cancer data, enabling advanced analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision making across the healthcare system. This is a leadership role focused on operational excellence, platform reliability, and delivery coordination. You will provide leadership across technical staff, balancing day-to-day data operations with transformation initiatives, including the transition to modern cloud-based data platforms. Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, systems thinking, and the ability to collaborate across clinical, business, and technical teams to deliver high-quality, trusted data solutions. This position is eligible to work remotely within Alberta.

Description:

Cancer Advanced Analytics (CAA) delivers a comprehensive, integrated cancer data environment (DECIDe) that consolidates clinical and administrative data from multiple sources, including electronic medical records such as Connect Care. This platform supports timely, high-quality data for patient care, operations, quality improvement, research, and education. The Lead - Data Operations is accountable for the day-to-day operation, performance, and reliability of the DECIDe platform. This includes overseeing data pipelines, integration processes, and production environments to ensure consistent delivery of trusted data products. The role works closely with the Lead Architect, data engineers, data and business analysts, and business stakeholders to coordinate priorities, manage releases, and support both ongoing operations and platform enhancements. This position provides leadership across teams and leads key operational processes, including incident management, performance optimization, and data quality practices. The Lead ensures alignment with architectural standards, data governance, and privacy requirements, while supporting scalable and sustainable data platform operations. Operating in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment, the role translates business and clinical needs into effective data solutions, resolves complex technical issues, and drives continuous improvement of data services to support strategic and operational objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related discipline with strong quantitative component (e.g. Mathematics, Economics, etc.) with developed knowledge of clinical environments and clinical analytics.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences, including senior leadership. 7-10 years of progressive experience in analytics, data warehousing, business intelligence, or enterprise data platforms. Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, database development, and ETL/ELT tools across on-premises (e.g., Oracle, MS SQL) and cloud environments (e.g., Snowflake or equivalent). Proven experience designing, building, and operating complex data systems, with accountability for performance, reliability, and production support. Demonstrated ability to apply data and technology solutions in complex, multi-stakeholder environments-preferably within healthcare-to drive improvements in clinical or business processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in specific data warehousing and business intelligence tools, ITIL foundations and project management are an asset. Experience with Snowflake, Streamlit, Coalesce, FiveTran, or Git/GitHub. Experience with dashboard development such as Tableau or PowerBI.
