Lead Data Architect to design, develop, deploy, and manage the data architectures, data strategies, and data governance frameworks for the U.S. Census Bureau's Decennial Transformation and Application Modernization (DTAM) effort. This role possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge across key tasks and high-impact assignments, plans and leads major data architecture assignments, and functions as a technical expert across multiple project assignments. The
Lead Data Architect translates business needs into long-term data architecture solutions and builds platforms that handle data at varying volumes, varieties, and velocities. May supervise others.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, deploy, and manage data architectures, data strategies, and data governance frameworks for systems, applications, and databases
- Build, integrate, and maintain data platforms including data lakes, lake houses, warehouses, marts, hubs, and knowledge graphs
- Plan, design, develop, implement, and maintain appropriate data structures for operational, graph, transactional, and spatial data
- Translate business needs into long-term data architecture solutions and evaluate reusability of current data for additional analyses
- Define and implement conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling concepts, techniques, and tools
- Develop strategies for data acquisition, archive, and recovery, and incorporate metadata management to optimize access, performance, and cost
- Enhance and maintain data dictionaries, catalogs, and repositories aligned with enterprise data standards
- Support data engineering and integration, including data pipelines, integration patterns, and Interface Control Documents
- Support data quality, data lineage, and data governance activities across service providers
- Validate the design of all SoS interfaces in accordance with data dictionaries and data lineage work products
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and application teams to identify, evaluate, and manage data storage solutions
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field
- 10-14 years of experience, possessing and applying comprehensive knowledge across key data architecture tasks and high-impact assignments (Senior level)
Required Skills- Expert experience designing and managing enterprise data architectures and governance frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to build data lakes, warehouses, marts, hubs, and knowledge graphs at scale
- Strong conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling skills
- Experience with data engineering, data pipelines, and data integration patterns
- Background in data quality, data lineage, metadata management, and data governance
Certifications Desired: - Big Data certification from AWS / Google / Azure
- Cloud Database certification
- Data Analytics certification
Desired Skills- Experience with large-scale federal statistical or survey data programs
- Familiarity with near-real-time data processing and high-volume/velocity data solutions
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms and storage optimization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive briefing to senior Government stakeholders
Security Clearance- U.S. Citizenship required
