Job Description

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is actively seeking a Lead Cybersecurity Engineer to support HII's Integrated Training Systems - Systems Engineering (ITS-SE) program by overseeing cybersecurity engineering activities across Navy training system projects in the areas of security engineering, assessment, authorization, and compliance efforts that protect mission-critical training systems. You will work directly with government stakeholders daily to ensure secure system designs, successful accreditation, and compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity requirements.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Must be able to demonstrate experience and knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD) Information Assurance (IA) and Risk Management Framework processes, practices, and tools per DoDD 8115.01, NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 framework implementation, eMASS (Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service), and be able to participate in various Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and working groups.

Additionally, the Lead Cybersecurity Engineer will provide oversight and hands-on execution, when needed, to:
  • Develop Cyber Defense-in-Depth Architecture Diagrams for the system, the sub-network, and platform network into which the system will be integrated.
  • Develop, maintain, and perform Cyber test procedures and document results.
  • Develop and update Cyber Risk Mitigation Plans.
  • Develop and maintain Risk Management Framework (RMF) packages in accordance with NAVSEA business rules.
  • Document cross-domain interfaces.
  • Review Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) vulnerability scans.
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and/or Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) content for each applicable system component.
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate user needs to create systems solutions that support overall business strategies.
  • Document system requirements, define scope and objectives, and create system specifications that drive system development and implementation.
  • Function as a liaison between Cyber Security professionals and users and have both business and technical expertise. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.
  • Work is generally collaborative in nature.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Client Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in a technical field, preferably Cybersecurity or Information Security.
  • At least four (4) to seven (7) years of related full-time professional experience in network computer equipment, system, and security.
  • Experience working with DOD Information Assurance (IA) mandatory policies standards, procedures, and policies.
  • Cyber-Information Technology (IT)/Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) intermediate level knowledge and skills, at a minimum.
  • IAT II certification (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security, CySA+).
  • An active Secret security clearance.


Preferred Requirements

  • Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering preferred.
  • CISSP or another IAM II level or higher certification preferred.
  • Experience leading or mentoring cybersecurity engineers or technical teams.
  • Experience leading cybersecurity efforts for Navy or DoD training, simulation, or shipboard systems.
  • Experience supporting A&A (Assessment & Authorization) activities for complex systems.
  • Experience working in highly collaborative, integrated engineering teams.
