Full Job Description
Meta is seeking a highly skilled Lead Counsel to join our Product Counseling Legal team. This role will provide strategic legal guidance to product and engineering teams, supporting the development and launch of innovative products across the Facebook and Messenger services worldwide. The Lead Counsel will play a critical role in navigating complex regulatory environments, collaborating cross-functionally, and ensuring responsible innovation at scale. Facebook and Messenger are among the world's most used ways to discover new things, make new connections, or embrace new ideas.

Responsibilities

Counsel product and engineering teams on features, launches, go-to-market activities, and emerging initiatives-including the use of AI and new technologies
• Lead legal review of product proposals for new and existing features, including novel content creation and monetization experiences
• Collaborate with Policy, Privacy, Integrity, Competition, AI, and other legal teams to deliver practical, business-focused legal guidance
• Educate business partners on regulatory trends, risk mitigation, and best practices
• Develop and implement compliance strategies for high-impact, high-visibility partnerships and products
• Serve as a point of escalation for legal matters within your coverage area and define legal support models for your teams/functions
• Build collaborative relationships with executive legal and cross-functional partners, and influence outcomes on critical matters

Minimum Qualifications
• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution
• Active and in good standing bar license in at least one U.S. state or equivalent foreign bar license. Where the jurisdiction of licensure differs from the location in which the role is based, the ability to promptly obtain permission to practice law for Meta in that location
• 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm, in-house, or in government
• Demonstrated expertise in AI, e-commerce, marketplace, content, consumer protection, privacy, and/or consumer tech-focused regulatory compliance
• Demonstrated experience guiding product teams from ideation through launch in a time-sensitive tech environment
• Proven communication and project management skills
• Manage multiple priorities and deliver clear, actionable guidance under pressure
• Proven success supporting cross-functional teams and resolving complex regulatory issues

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting global product launches and resolving complex regulatory issues
• Demonstrated familiarity with digital advertising, data privacy, and consumer technology products
• Subject-matter expertise in multiple complex legal or product areas, with strategic thinking and balanced judgment
• Lead projects outside primary product/coverage area and proactively identify opportunities for impact
• Use of AI to improve work product and ways of working
