Full Job Description
Cloud Onboarding Architects work alongside Customer Onboarding Managers, Technical Instructors, Resident Solutions Architects within Professional Services. This team ensures that every new managed enterprise customer has a fully configured dbt platform account and is confident using it.

Guided Setup is often a customer's first hands-on experience with dbt. The team sits at the intersection of technical implementation, customer experience, and product feedback; helping customers navigate the complexity of their data, identity, security, and development environments while ensuring they are set up for long-term success.

About the Role

The Cloud Onboarding Architect Lead is the technical leader for Guided Setup across our dbt enterprise customer base. You'll own the most complex and highest-visibility setup engagements while also helping define how the entire team delivers setup at scale.

This role combines hands-on technical delivery with technical leadership. You'll be the person other Cloud Onboarding Architects turn to when a customer has an unusual architecture, an implementation has stalled, or the existing playbook doesn't quite fit. You'll also work across Professional Services, Engineering, Product, and Design to turn those individual challenges into better processes, documentation, and product experiences for everyone.

This is a role for someone who enjoys being both deep in the technical details and responsible for the bigger picture.

Technologies You'll Use

Modern Data Warehouses (Snowflake / Databricks / BigQuery / Redshift), Repositories (GitHub / GitLab / Azure DevOps), Identity Providers (Okta / Entra ID / Google), PrivateLink / Private Service Connect, AWS, Azure, GCP, SQL, SSO, OAuth, Rocketlane

What You'll Do
  • Own complex and escalated setup engagements
    • Lead Guided Setup for our most technically complex, strategically important, and highest-visibility enterprise accounts across all four milestones: data warehouse/repository configuration, SSO, RBAC/SCIM, and user access
    • Serve as the senior technical escalation point when setup issues threaten onboarding timelines or customer activation, including complex PrivateLink, OAuth, SSO, networking, and identity scenarios
    • Work directly with customer technical stakeholders and administrators to understand their environment, identify risks, and guide them toward a successful configuration
    • Anticipate technical blockers early and create clear plans to resolve them before they impact the broader onboarding program
    • Make sound scoping decisions about what belongs in Guided Setup versus Customer Solutions Engineering, Product, or post-onboarding work
    • Ensure complex engagements maintain the same high bar for customer experience, documentation, and technical quality as standard setups
  • Raise the bar for the team
    • Act as a technical mentor and coach for Cloud Onboarding Architect I/IIs, helping them develop their troubleshooting, platform expertise, and customer-facing skills
    • Serve as a thought partner for COAs working through technically challenging or ambiguous customer situations
    • Own and continuously improve the Guided Setup checklist, playbooks, kickoff materials, troubleshooting guidance, and internal documentation
    • Identify patterns across customer engagements and turn those patterns into repeatable processes, tooling, documentation, or product feedback
    • Identify recurring setup blockers and drive them toward resolution, whether the underlying fix is a documentation update, process change, enablement opportunity, or product improvement
    • Help establish and maintain consistent standards for setup quality across the team
  • Represent setup cross-functionally
    • Be the primary point of contact into Engineering, Product & Design for setup-related bugs, feature requests, and onboarding UX feedback
    • Work with Customer Solutions Engineering on the setup/support boundary and on customers struggling to reach utilization post-onboarding
    • Collaborate with Training on on-demand content for the setup steps that create the most friction for new customers
    • Contribute setup expertise to Engineering team (EPD/Transport) conversations on PrivateLink and network architecture
    • Bring the voice of enterprise customers into internal discussions about product usability, administration, security, and onboarding
    • Use data, customer feedback, and experience from individual engagements to identify opportunities to improve setup time and activation readiness

Skills We're Looking For
  • Deep, hands-on experience with dbt (2-3 years minimum) as an account admin and data practitioner, at a level where you're a trusted authority on the platform
  • Prior experience as a Cloud Onboarding Architect / Implementation Consultant (or directly equivalent role) - this is not an entry point into the setup team
  • Administrator-level fluency with data warehouses (Snowflake / Databricks / BigQuery / Redshift), repositories (GitHub / GitLab / Azure DevOps), and identity providers (Okta / Entra ID / Google), including SSO, SAML, and OAuth
  • Track record of mentoring or coaching less experienced teammates on technical and soft skills
  • Comfort owning ambiguous, cross-functional problems without a clear playbook - and building the playbook yourself
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to represent the setup team's perspective to Engineering, Product, and customer executives alike
  • Ability to tailor consistent white glove setup experiences based on an account's size and strategic importance
  • Strong customer judgment and the ability to balance technical correctness with customer timelines and business priorities

Bonus Skills
  • Experience with PrivateLink or other secure connectivity patterns
  • Experience contributing to internal enablement content or documentation
  • Comfort being the technical bridge in between, pre-sales, post-sales, Engineering, and Product
  • Familiarity with Rocketlane or similar project/time-tracking tools used for onboarding delivery
  • dbt Architect certified
