Summary

About the Position:This is a Lead Biologist, GS-0401-13 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, Fort Worth District, Regional Planning and Environmental Center (RPEC).

This position may be filled at any of the following duty locations: Fort Worth, TX; Galveston, TX; Little Rock, AR; or Tulsa, OK. The duty location chosen for this position is at the discretion of management and will be determined at the time of selection.

Duties

• Perform complex ecological analyses of multiple large and complex project
• Responsible for accomplishing work associated with environmental studies related to Civil Works and Military programs of such a magnitude that they must be divided into smaller components and assigned to team members of contractors.
• Review environmental documents prepared by others and uses knowledge of ecological processes, Corps of Engineers Regulations, and policies to assess completeness.
• Direct preparation of written reports, charts, graphs, and maps for survey reports, environmental impact statements, and environmental assessments.
• Evaluate geological, biological, physical, oceanographic, and other natural resource data as it relates to other environmental factors and project features which are considered in recommendations for actions to be taken.
• Serve as team leader for lower grade team members in the Section.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Lead Biologist:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) conducting environmental investigations/studies for ecological characteristics of civil works water resources projects or military natural resources studies; AND 2) preparing documentation to record results of environmental studies or to develop plan formulation for environmental projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Education
