Position PurposeReporting to the Senior Manager, Information Technology, the incumbent manages a group of IT professionals engaged in the provision of computing and network support services. To this end, the position plans, organizes controls and evaluates operations, establishes plans, procedures and service standards and ensures the team has the human, financial and technical resources required to deliver and support efficient network services. Is responsible for systems and applications on which the service business operations are completely dependent. The position has full responsibility, authority and accountability for the short and long term planning, evaluation and overall maintenance of the management of the information systems within the assigned faculty/service.
This is a 12-month contract position, and the posting will remain open until the role is filled.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:- Strategic Planning: Is responsible for the short-term and long-term strategic planning of all the IT assets of the assigned service. Analyzes the needs of the service, prepares budget requirements and makes recommendations to the IT Manager Network for future replacements and upgrades of all IT network resources.
- Operations Management: Supervises the work of technical services staff and other IT professionals by facilitating and tracking project status; identifying problems and issues; allocating appropriate human, financial and system resources; and ensuring that services are completed on schedule and at the highest levels of quality.
- Human Resources Management: Recruits, mentors, trains, develops, manages and evaluates staff ensuring capable and engaged resources.
- Technical Expertise: Provides planning, leadership, direction and advanced technical expertise regarding computing, network and technical services. Act as a second level of escalation for complex technical issues in order to provide guidance and expertise for the resolution in a timely manner. Assesses the severity of the problem to determine the risk and impact on the faculty/service and/or University. Relies on technical documentation, procedures and previous knowledge and expertise to develop solutions to resolve complex problems.
- Data Security: Responsible for ensuring confidentiality, security and accessibility of institutional data. The incumbent complies with and promotes any controls put in place to protect and secure data and exhibits due diligence in following the established information security and privacy policies as well as related standards.
What you will bring:- University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in managing IT operations and leading a team of IT.
- Knowledge of computing software and hardware, network, telephony and multimedia equipment.
- Knowledge of best practices related to IT service management.
- Knowledge of University's hardware, software, peripherals and security guidelines and standards.
- Knowledge of the University's business operations and priorities.
- Experience in negotiating, implementing and monitoring service level agreements.
- Experience in planning and managing IT projects and related budgets.
- Experience in human resources management including hiring, supervising, coaching, and managing performance.
- Experience in change management.
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to proactively keep abreast of new/emerging technologies.
- Bilingualism - French and English (spoken and written).
